    INTRODUCTION

    The automatic changeover


    eliminates the need for manual or
    human intervention by sensing the
    main supply and switching to an
    available source.
    THEORY

    The automatic changeover switch can also to referred to as a transfer switch.

    An Automatic Transfer Switch (ATS) is often installed where a backup generator is located,

    so that the generator may provide temporary electrical power if the utility source fails.
     As well as transferring the load to the backup generator, an ATS may also command the
    backup generator to start, based on the voltage monitored on the primary supply. The
    transfer switch isolates the backup generator from the electric utility when the generator is
    on and providing temporary power
    CONSTRUCTION

     We first simulated the circuit before commencing its construction.


     We made all connections as connected on the simulated circuit as shown below
    PRECAUTIONS

     The AC source was the last thing to be connected after construction due to its high voltage.

     The soldering iron was carefully handled by holding its plastic part in order to prevent

    injury during soldering.

     We ensured that no connecting wire was touched once the AC source was connected.

     Shoes and clothes were worn throughout the construction and testing to prevent electric

    shock.

     The transformer was carefully connected to prevent it from exploding or getting destroyed.
    OBSERVATION

     Afterconnecting the circuit to a main power source


    and also an alternate power source we can see that,
    once the power from the main source is out the
    load still continues to function after a very short
    amount of time. Indicating a change in the power
    source from the main to the alternative and vice
    versa once there is power from the main source
    once again
    CONCLUSION

     The automatic changeover has been designed and


    constructed. The circuit worked satisfactorily when
    tested with optimal switching speed and minimal
    delay times. The circuit is reliable and fast. Its
    performance is predictable, and it is relatively
    easier to operate compared to the ordinary
    (manual) changeover switch.
