Introduction

LPG - short for Liquified Petroleum Gas or Liquid Petroleum Gas- and also
called LP Gas-is actually a term used to describe two flammable
hydrocarbon Natural Gas Liquids (NGLs): propane (C3H8)
and butane (C4H10), or even a mixture of the two.
LPG stored as a liquid under pressure in cylinders, is widely used in homes
as cooking gas.
LPG being colorless and odorless, a distinctive foul odor is added to
enable easy detection of a leak.
As LPG vapor is heavier then air, these vapor accumulate at lower levels
and a fire or explosion may result.

When Buying LPG

Check the company seal and safety cap on

the cylinder.
Do not accept the cylinder if the seal is
broken & due date is over.
Check for gas leaks by applying soap
solution on cylinder joints and Suraksha
pipes at the time of putting the new
cylinder into use.
Do not use open flame to detect leaks.

There is an expiry date (physical life) for LPG cylinders?
Note: Expired Cylinders are not safe for use

and may cause accidents. Before receiving check
and receive.

How we can check the expiry of LPG cylinders

On one of three side stems of the cylinder, the expiry date is coded alpha numerically as A or B or C or D
and some two digit number following this e.g. A.23
The alphabets stand for quarters
A for March (First Qtr),

B for June (Second Qtr),
C for Sept (Third Qtr), &
D for December (Fourth Qtr).
The digits stand for the year till it is valid.
Hence A23 would mean March Qtr of 2023.

Keep the doors and windows of your

kitchen open for proper ventilation.
Do not place flammable or plastic
items near the flame.
Never leave your cooking unattended.
Wear clothes that do not catch fire
easily.
Close the regulator knob to OFF
position when cylinder is not in use.

Maintaining and storing your LPG

Disconnect LPG regulator and affix safety

cap on the cylinder when your gas stove
is not in use for long.
Always store the LPG cylinder in an
upright position and away from other
combustible and flammable materials.
Always use ISI/NS approved tubes,
stoves, IGT Auto Cut Meter Regulator.
As good practice, change the Rubber
tubes (1.5m) after 2 years.

 If a fire is too large, spreading rapidly, or you are uncertain
about how to handle it, evacuate the area immediately and
contact emergency services.
 The class of fire extinguisher used to control gas-related

fires is Class B. PASS (Pull,Aim,Squeeze Handle, Swipe side
to side)
 Class B fires involve flammable liquids or gases, such as

gasoline, propane, natural gas, or butane.
 Remember, when dealing with any fire, safety should be the

top priority.
