The document summarizes several case studies of sustainable buildings:
1) The Charis residence in Bangalore uses rammed earth foundations, maximizes energy efficiency, indoor air quality, and uses green power and efficient materials.
2) Suzlon One Earth in Pune, India is a LEED Platinum-certified campus that exclusively uses recycled materials and sustainably manages water, energy, air, sewage and waste onsite.
3) The Infosys building in Mysore, India was designed to match the contoured site, using an origami-inspired jagged facade to represent the terrain. It prioritizes water and energy efficiency, indoor environment quality and green power.

ON SUSTAINABLE BUILDING
BY ACAHRYA BHOOMIKA NAGESH Residence for Charis Introduction
The home is located in the outskirt
of Bangalore at the edge of the garden around the park adjoining a lake. Since the plot is a corner one the home is designed so that it can be viewed from both the sides. As one walks around the building it reveals its characters, punctured wall with windows of various size and hues, telescopic vaults and sloping roofs at jaunty angles. Suzlon One Earth Introduction Suzlon Energy Limited is a leading wind energy company based in Pune, India. With sustainability as their product they pledged to create the greenest office campus in India. Living the motto of the company, ‘powering a greener tomorrow,’ the design exclusively employed non- toxic and recycled materials. Water, energy, air, sewerage and trash are all sustainably managed on site. No sewerage, wastewater or trash is removed from the site and all are recycled within it. ABOUT ■ Client: Tulsi Tanti, CMD, Suzlon Energy Limited ■ Location: Pune (India) ■ Architects: CCBA Designs ■ Use: Offices ■ Year: 2009 ■ Site Area: 4,53,930 square feet (10.4 acre) ■ Certification: LEED (Platinum), GRIHA (5 Stars) Concept The design of Suzlon One Earth is highly inspired by iconic Indian historical sites like Fatehpur Sikri and the Meenakshi Sundareshvara Temple complex in Madurai. These campuses show a clustered form of arrangement with an ingenious play between open and closed spaces. They both have solid, flat components that integrate the complexes and highlight features that emphasize quadrants and sacred places. These campuses of reference also contain water bodies, an idea which was translated to Suzlon One Earth. Key Features ■ Rainwater harvesting ■ Energy Efficiency ■ Indoor Environment Quality ■ Waste water management ■ Green Power ■ Waste Recycle FLOOR PLAN

ELEVATION Section Infosys (Mysore) Introduction The architecture of software development block 'Infosys building in Mysore' is known for its jagged facades and lopsided fragments style. Thoughtfully designed by Ar. Hafeez Contractor, the unique design concept for this building came to the architect's mind when he visited the site for the first time which is situated on a tremendously contoured site in Mysore. ABOUT ■ Location: Mysore (India) ■ Architects: AR. Hafeez Contractor ■ Use: Offices ■ Year: 2009 ■ Site Area: 350 Acre ■ Certification: LEED (Platinum), USGBC (Platinum), GRIHA (5 Star) Concept The craggy character of the topography inspired the building's architecture, which Ar. Hafeez Contractor decided would match the curved site. The Origami concept worked well with the building's length, and he then opted to apply the technique of folding paper, which is certain to "represent the site's spirit”. Key Features ■ Water Efficiency ■ Energy Efficiency ■ Indoor environment quality ■ Green Power ■ Efficient Material Selection and Management House of the Day: MeMo House Introduction The MeMo house, which was built on a plot in San Isidro, in the northern part of the province of Buenos Aires, Argentina, was conceived on the premise of a client who is passionate about landscaping and has a strong conviction regarding sustainability and the environment. The premise was to develop a project in a plot between infill buildings while reducing to the maximum extent possible the loss of green spaces due to the construction of the house.
