Holy Name of Jesus,

January 1st, 2023.

Prelude
Hymn #291 O Sing a Song of Bethlehem (English
Melody/KINGSFOLD)
The prelude is a sacred curtain dropped
between the world and the sanctuary.
During this time, be prayerful and reverent in
preparation for the worship
of our Holy God in His sanctuary.
(Please silence all phones and electronic devices).
CALL TO
SOLEMN
ASSEMBLY
(Psalm 8)
[PLEASE STAND]
Liturgist: 1 O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name
in all the earth! You have
set your glory above the heavens.
2 Out of the mouth of babies and infants,
you have established strength because of
your foes,
to still the enemy and the avenger.
Liturgist: 3 When I look at
your heavens, the work of
your fingers, the moon and
the stars, which you have set in
place, 4 what is man that you are mindful of
him, and the son of
man that you care for him?
Liturgist: 5 Yet you have
made him a little lower
than the heavenly beings
and crowned him with glory and honor. 6
You have given him dominion over the works
of your hands; you have put all things under
his feet, 7 all sheep and oxen, and also the
beasts of the field,
Liturgist: 8 the birds of the
heavens, and the fish of the
sea, whatever passes along
the paths of the seas.
9 O Lord, our Lord, how majestic
is your name in all the earth!

Come, let us
worship the Lord!
Hymn #289
Adoration

PRAYER OF
INVOCATION

COLLECT FOR
THE HOLY NAME
OF JESUS:
(from the Book of Common
Prayer)
[PLEASE BE SEATED]
Unison:
“Eternal Father, you gave
to your incarnate Son the holy name of
Jesus to be the sign
of our salvation: Plant in every
heart, we pray, the love of him who is the
Savior of the world,
Unison:
our Lord Jesus Christ; who
lives and reigns with you and
the Holy Spirit, one God, in
glory everlasting. Amen.”
READING
OF THE LAW
Matthew 22.35-40
Liturgist: “And one of them, a
lawyer, asked him a question to
test him. “Teacher, which is the
great commandment in the
Law?” And he said to him,
“You shall love the Lord your
God
Liturgist: with all your heart
and with all your soul and with
all your
mind. This is the great and first
commandment. And a second is
like it: You shall love your
neighbor as yourself.
Liturgist: On these
two commandments
depend all the Law
and the Prophets.”
CONFESSION
OF SIN
(from dailyliturgy.com)
Unison: “Lord God, in Christ you
have adopted me as your beloved child.
But I confess that deep inside my soul I
doubt your
love for me. Instead of being satisfied in
your acceptance, I look for acceptance
elsewhere.
Instead of resting in your love,
Unison: I am restless with fear,
control, and worry. Forgive my lack of
trust in your promises. Forgive my doubt
of your great love. Let your perfect love
cast out all fear, and free me to
glorify and enjoy you fully.
In Jesus’ name. Amen.”
ASSURANCE
OF PARDON
(Matthew 11.28-30)
Liturgist: Receive these words of comfort
from God: “Come to me,
all who labor and are heavy laden,
And I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon
you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and
lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your
souls.
For my yoke is easy, and my
burden is light.””
PASSING
THE PEACE
(2 Corinthians 13.11-12)
Liturgist: “Finally, brothers, rejoice. Aim for
restoration, comfort one another, agree with
one another,
live in peace; and the God of love and peace
will be with you. Greet one another with a
holy kiss.”
Let’s celebrate the presence of the risen
Christ amongst us by greeting our brothers
and sisters.

fullness of time had come,
God sent forth his Son, born
of woman, born under the law,
5 to redeem those who were
under the law, so that we
might receive adoption as sons.
Reader: 6 And because you
are sons, God has sent the

then an heir through God.

THE GOSPEL:
[PLEASE STAND]
Reader: A reading
from the Gospel of Luke, chapter
2, verses 15-21

Cogregation: Glory
to you Lord Christ!
Reader: 15 When the angels
went away from them into
heaven, the shepherds said
to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem
and see this thing that has happened, which the
Lord has made known to us.” 16 And they
went with haste and found Mary and Joseph,
and the baby lying in a manger.
Reader: 17 And when they
saw it, they made known the
saying that had been told them concerning
this child. 18 And all
who heard it wondered at what
the shepherds told them. 19 But
Mary treasured up all these things,
pondering them in her heart.
Reader: 20 And the shepherds returned,
glorifying and praising
God for all they had heard and
seen, as it had been told them.
21 And at the end of eight days,

the angel before he was conceived

Malotte/MALOTTE)
[PLEASE STAND]
Reader:
Let’s pray as our
Savior taught us:
Our Father which art in heaven, hallowed
be Thy name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be
done, on earth as it is in heaven. Give us
this day our daily bread, and forgive us our
debts as
we forgive our debtors,
and lead us not into temptation, but
deliver us from evil:
For thine is the kingdom
and the power, and the
glory, forever. Amen.
AFFIRMATION
OF FAITH:
The Ligonier Statement on
Christology
[PLEASE REMAIN STANDING]
Reader:
Church of the Lord Jesus Christ, what
do you believe?
Unison: We confess the mystery and
wonder of God made flesh and rejoice in
our great salvation through Jesus Christ
our Lord. With the Father and the Holy
Spirit, the Son created all things,
sustains all things, and makes all things
new.
Unison: Truly God, He became truly man,
two natures in one person.

He was born of the Virgin Mary and lived

among us. Crucified, dead, and buried, He
rose on the third day, ascended to heaven,
and will come again in glory and judgment.
Unison: For us, He kept the Law, atoned for
sin, and satisfied God’s wrath. He took our
filthy rags and gave us His righteous robe.
He is
our Prophet, Priest, and King, building His
church, interceding
for us, and reigning over all things. Jesus
Christ is Lord; we praise His holy Name
forever. Amen.

belongs to your call—one Lord, one faith, one
baptism, one God and Father of all, who is over all
and through
all and in all”. (Ephesians 4:4–6).
