ELECTRONIC

AGE
ELECTRONIC AGE (1930s-1980s)
ELECTRONIC AGE (1930s-1980s)

• Also known as digital age, computer

age, or new media.

• Is a period in human history

characterized by the shift from
traditional industry that the industrial
revolution brought through
industrialization to an economy based
on information computerization.
What happened during this time?

• Technological advancements

• Being able to contact others quickly without needing

to leave your house

• Long distance communication became more efficient

How did it start?

The creation of transistors guided the electronic age.

People harnessed the power of transistors that led to
the new inventions of technologies.
Examples of technologies develop
during this era:

o Transistor Radio
o Television
o OHP, LCD Projectors
o Mainframe Computers
o Personal Computers
o Large Electronic Computers
Transistor radio
Is a small portable radio
receiver that was transistor-
based circuitry. With the
transistor radio, music
and information suddenly
became portable.
Television (1941)

The electronic delivery

of moving images and
sound from a source to
a receiver.
Large Electronic Computers

EDSAC (1949)
• Known as Electronic Delay
Storage Automatic Calculator

• Is a large-scale electronic
machine in which ultrasonic
delay units are used for storage
of orders and numbers.
Large Electronic Computers

UNIVAC I (1951)
• Known as Universal Automatic
Computer

• Was the first general-purpose

electronic digital computer
design for business application
produced by the United States.
Mainframe Computers

IBM 704 (1960)

• Known as International Business
Machine

• A large-scale computer designed

for engineering and scientific
calculations.
Personal Computers

Hewlett Packard 9100A (1968)

Is an early programmable
calculator, a small computer
with sophisticated instruction
set on the keyboard. It was
the first totally self-contained
programmable unit of its kind,
which could fit on a desk.
Personal Computers

Apple 1 (1976)
• A desktop computer that came
as a single motherboard,
pre-assembled, unlike other
personal computers.

• Is an 8-bit desktop computer

released by the Apple Computer
Company.
OHP, LCD Projectors
An overhead projector, like a
film or slide projector, uses
light to project an enlarged
image on a screen, allowing
the view of a small document
or picture to be shared with
a large audience.
