DESCRIPTON PATTERN
 An act of describing.
 A process of giving statement
on the characteristics or
qualities of someone or
something.
DESCRIPTON PATTERN
 A statement that tells you how
something or someone looks, sounds,
etc.
 A spoken or written representation or
account of a person, object, or event.
PURPOSE OF DESCRIPTON
PATTERN
 Is to recreate, invent, or visually
present a person, place, event, or
action so that reader can picture out
of what is being described. It is
heavily based on sensory details:
sight, sound, smell, feel, and taste.
PURPOSE OF DESCRIPTON
PATTERN
 To tell the readers about the
physical characteristics of a person,
place or thing. Description relies on
the five senses: sight, hearing,
taste, touch, and smell.
WHAT IS DESCRIPTIVE
ESSAY?
 It tells you what something looks like or
what feels like, sounds like, smells like,
or tastes like. However, description often
goes beyond personal sense impression, it
can do more than what is conveyed in our
sensory impression through imagination.

 For example, an essay about a “city”
we can describe the city any of the
following descriptions: the kinds of
people living there, their lifestyles,
their backgrounds and their
attitudes.

 Description makes even the novelists
creates imaginary landscape,
historians can paint word pictures of
historical figures and scientists can
describe physical phenomena they
have actually seen.

 When you write using
description, you use language to
create vivid impression of what
something feels like for your
readers.
THE IMPORTANCE OF
DESCRIPTION PATTERN
 When the writer wants to evoke the senses
to create a picture. Often, the patterns are
used together to give the reader a
compelling story with vivid, descriptive
details which help to illuminate and
strengthen the writer’s thesis.

 OBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION
APPROACH- requires precise or
accurate descriptions based on
what is observed or perceived of
our senses from the subjects.

 SUBJECTIVE DESCRIPTION
APPROACH- this is opposite to objective
description. This is an approach to
description, which allows us to go beyond
our descriptions on the subject without
basing our descriptions from our sensory
perception but rather through the power of
imagination.

Choose one, any of the following topics below and write
a descriptive essay using the description pattern in your
writing. (100 points)
 Your most embarrassing moments.
 Your best summer vacation ever.
 The memorable trip you took.
 Your memory of someone whom you missed much.
 The time you really felt scared.
