PARALLEL & COUNTER FLOW HEAT
EXCHANGER TEST RIG
OBJECTIVE

To find the effectiveness of “PARALLEL

AND COUNTER FLOW HEAT
EXCHANGERS”
INTRODUCTION

Parallel and counter-flow heat exchangers are two common types of heat
exchange devices used in various industrial and engineering applications. These
devices are designed to transfer thermal energy between two fluids, either liquids or
gases, flowing in separate channels or passages.

 Two conditions:
1. Parallel Flow
2. Counter Flow
Parallel flow

Parallel-Flow Heat Exchanger: In a parallel-

flow heat exchanger, the two fluids (hot and cold)
flow in the same direction, parallel to each other.
These heat exchangers are relatively simple in
design and construction. The hot fluid enters at one
end, and the cold fluid enters at the same end,
flowing in the same direction.
Counter flow

In a counterflow heat exchanger, the hot and

cold fluids flow in opposite directions to each other.
This configuration offers several advantages.

NOTE : This is the most efficient method to transfer

heat between two fluid streams

FUNCTIONS OF
COMPONENTS
HEAT EXCHANGER

 HEAT EXCHANGER is made up of CPVC & Copper pipe

 CPVC is used as outer pipe because CPVC has lower heat transfer
coefficient than metals and it can withstand temperature up to 82 degree
Celsius (0.14 W/mK)
 Copper pipe used as inner pipe
because it has higher heat transfer
coefficient (401 W/mK)
HEAT EXCHANGER
HEATER
 Water heater is used to increase the temperature
of water around 55-65 degree Celsius
 Specifications

• 3 ltr capacity
• 230V , 3000W
• Instant
THEROMOCOUPLES

 To determine the inlet and outlet water

temperature of both hot water and cold water
