Cause and Effect
A cause-and-effect pattern organizes details
based on the cause, the reason, and the result
or consequences of a certain phenomenon.
This pattern may discuss both the causes only,
the effects only or both.
A cause is the reason why something
happens.
An effect, on the other hand, is the result
of the cause.
.
When we speak about the sequence by which these
two takes place, the cause
always happens first while the effect happens next.
However, when they are written

as parts of sentences, the order by which they
appear may not be according to what
happened first or next.
Renz got sick, so he stayed
home from school.
The swimming carnival was
cancelled due to bad weather.
The purpose of understanding the cause and
effect writing pattern is to analyze the various
often underlying causes of something as well
as the real or potential results of those causes.
When reading this type of pattern, focus on
and take note of the following elements: the
purpose of the text, the relationship between
causes and effects, and the potential causal
fallacies or illogical arguments.

Example
March is the month of fire prevention. Fire can
occur in many causes as much as intentionally or
accidentally. The Bureau of Fire Protection
enumerated the causes, and one reason is; leaving
unattended candle overnight. As a consequence,
someone’s house could turn to ashes in a matter of
time.
To better comprehend a text that
follows a cause-effect pattern, a
fishbone map can be used.
