Introduction :-
Tropical Storm Ophelia made landfall Sept. 23, as a strong tropical storm
with 70 mph winds on Emerald Island, N.C.
Hurricane Idalia, which formed in the northwestern Caribbean,
intensified into a Category 4 hurricane before making landfall as a
category-3 hurricane on Aug. 30 near Keaton Beach, Fla. Idalia was the
only U.S. landfalling hurricane in 2023
Hurricane Lee made landfall as a post-tropical cyclone in Nova Scotia,
Canada, on Sept. 16. Swells generated by Lee caused dangerous surf and
rip currents along the entire U.S. Atlantic coast.
Overall, 20 tropical cyclones formed, of which 17 reached tropical storm
intensity and were named. A total of 10 of these storms became hurricanes,
and eight became major hurricanes.

In Asia, countries like China, India, and Bangladesh faced devastating floods in 2023.
Monsoon rains led to overflowing rivers and flash floods, affecting millions of people and displacing communities.
Bangladesh, a low-lying country, experienced severe flooding, exacerbating
the challenges faced by its densely populated regions and impacting livelihoods and agriculture .
Europe :-
Central Europe experienced severe flooding in 2023, particularly in countries like Germany, Austria, and
Switzerland.
Heavy rainfall caused rivers such as the Danube, Rhine, and Elbe to overflow their banks, leading to
widespread flooding in urban and rural areas.
The floods resulted in significant damage to infrastructure, including roads, bridges, and buildings, as well as
agricultural land and crops.
