Solid work modelling

 INTRODUCTION:-
• Computer-aided design (CAD) is the use of computer systems to aid in the creation,
modification, analysis, or optimization of a design.

• In mechanical design it is known as mechanical design automation (MDA) or

computer-aided drafting (CAD)

 The Importance of CAD Models in Manufacturing:-

• Before CAD, designers used paper, pencils, rulers, compasses, and other tools to go about
their drafting. It was cumbersome, time consuming, and a nuisance at times especially when
there were changes being made to the design.

• During the 1960s CAD was eventually developed originally for the purpose of designing
automobiles.
• After great success, the technology spread to other sectors in the manufacturing industry,
and soon reached the electronics and aerospace industry.

 Dassault Systems: 3D Software Company
• Dassault to develop a new generation of computer-aided "The 3DEXPERIENCE
Company", is a European multinational software company that develops 3D design,
CAD/CAM software.
• Dassault Group created in 1981 by Avions Marcel
• 1997: Dassault Systems acquired SolidWorks, a developer of mechanical design
solutions
 SolidWorks:-
• SOLIDWORKS is a solid modeling computer-aided
design (CAD) computer program. SolidWorks is
published by Dassault Systems.

• SolidWorks Corporation was founded in

December 1993 by Massachusetts Institute of
Technology graduate Jon Hirschtick.

• SolidWorks released its first product

SOLIDWORKS 95, in November 1995.

• According to the publisher, over two million

The SolidWorks interface
engineers and designers at more than 165,000
companies were using SolidWorks as of 2013.

Dimension constraints
 Define size
 Define location

Needs more information to control the

geometry
 Sketch can have three states
• Under defined
• Fully defined
• Over defined

o The color blue: means under defined

o Black color: indicates fully defined
Solid work has all the information it need for the geometry.
o Over defined
 Solid work has too much information and is confused
Yellow :- indicates over defined
