SIMPLE PAST TENSE

WHAT IS A SIMPLE PAST TENSE?

Simple past tense that is used to talk about things that happened
or existed before now.

The simple past tense shows that we are talking about something
that has already happened. In other words, the simple past tense
emphasizes that the action is already finished.
WHAT ARE THE FUNCTIONS OF SIMPLE PAST
TENSE?

1. To explain the action in the past in the exact time.


2. To explain the action in the past and finish at that time.
3. To explain the daily activities in the past.
4. To express feelings or emotions in the past.
5. To explain habits in the past, but no longer happens in the
present time.
ACTION IN THE EXACT TIME

• I ate oatmeal this morning.


• She met his mother last
night.
• My brother didn’t answer
my call that day.
ACTION THAT FINISH AT THAT TIME

o I went to market yesterday.


o She gave this doll 2 days
ago.
o Sorry, I was sick yesterday.
DAILY ACTIVITIES IN THE PAST

 I went to the beach every morning,


when I was in Bali
 My mom visited me every year,
until I graduated.
 I often brought my lunch to school,
when I was in Junior High School.
FEELINGS OR EMOTIONS IN THE PAST
 I was happy to see my mom.
 He was so happy to be back
in his hometown.
 She was so sad because her
kitten is gone.
