Introduction
Meet Albert Bandura
Introduction
Albert Bandura was a Canadian-born
American psychologist and theorist
behind the social cognitive theory.
Bandura is best known for his “Bobo
doll” experiment, which demonstrated
that children can learn behaviors
through the observation of adults.
“Psychology cannot tell people
how they ought to live their lives.
It can, however, provide them
with the means for effecting
personal and social change.”

Social Learning
Theory
Bandura’s Social Learning Theory
proposed that learning occurs through
observation, imitation, and modeling
and is influenced by factors such as
attention, motivation, attitudes, and
emotions. (Cherry, 2022)
Social Learning
Theory ● People learn new behaviors by observing the
actions and consequences of others

● Places great importance on environmental factors

● The observer has to deem the model “worthy” of

being imitated

● Observed behavior must be remembered in order

to be imitated successfully

● Motor reproduction allows observers to

physically imitate a behavior

● Rewards and punishment are considered when

choosing to imitate a behavior
