Chapter 1: Human organs and organ systems
Part A) What are some organs and organ systems in the
human body?

Cambridge Objective:
6Bh1 Use scientific names for some major organs of body systems
6Bh2 Identify the position of major organs in the body

LESSON OUTCOMES
After this lesson students should be able to:
❑ List, identify and define the life processes with examples.
❑ Identify and explore the levels of Organization with examples.
❑ Explore the names and positions of the major organs
in the human body.
List out the activities that living things can and non-living things cannot

ENGAGE
Life Processes

MRS GREN is an acronym often used to help remember all the necessary features of living organisms
EXPLORE Match the images with the life process
Plants grow towards the sun, animals move in search of food, humans perform many activities by moving.
Even micro organisms have special structures for movement.

EXPLAIN
The process of breaking down food to release
energy with the help of oxygen we breathe in.
Are respiration and breathing different?
It means when an organism is able to sense changes in the environment like heat, light or water. Humans have
5 senses to react to changes in environment. Plants growing towards light is also one example.
The process of an organism increasing in size by adding cells, by the cells getting larger or by replacing cells.
The process in which new individual or offspring is produced from their parents
The process in which waste is eliminated from the organism.
Nutrition is the process of obtaining food and then using it for obtaining energy, growth and repair of the body.

levels of Organization
What do you see the material that is used repeatedly in making this?

ENGAGE
Do you know that each living
thing in this earth starts with
one single thing same like how
the wall is made out of many
single bricks. Do you know what
is it called?
1.Brick # cell
Explain the levels of
body organisation

2.The bricks make

wall# Tissue

3.The walls make

room # organ

Video 4.The rooms make the

house # organ system

5.The houses make

the city # Organism
All living organisms are made up of cells. Cell is the building block of life.

How can we see a cell? What is the name of the

device?
EXPLAIN
Observe the slide carefully for a minute and then try to answer the activity in the
next slide
EXPLORE MATCH THE WORDS WITH ITS CORRECT EXPLANATION

Level 1: Write the levels of organization in
U order.
A Level 2: Write and draw the levels of
T
E organization with one example of any 1
organ.
Level 3: Write and draw the levels of
organization and explain what does each
level means with an example.
What about blood? Blood has so many
EXTEND different types of cells like white and red
blood cells? We know that organs are
made out of same types of cells. Then
what is blood? An Organ ?

Blood is both a tissue and

a fluid. It is a tissue
because it is a collection
of similar specialized cells
that serve particular
functions. These cells are
suspended in a liquid
matrix (plasma), which
makes the blood a fluid.

Some important
Organs & their
locations inside the
body
ENGAGE
What are the
different parts of
your human body?
What would
happen if those
parts are not
located in its
correct place?
EXPLORE Guess what are these organs? Can you locate
them in correct places?

Recall the life processes and relate the organs

lungs, kidneys and brain with the life processes
they are involved in.
THE BRAIN
The brain is located in the head and
functions as the body’s control center.

EXPLAIN
THE LUNGS
The two lungs are located on either side of the upper
chest. Their main function is exchanging oxygen and
carbon dioxide with the blood.
THE HEART
The heart is located in the center of the chest, and its
function is to keep blood flowing through the body.
THE LIVER
The liver is located on the right side of the abdomen.
It is the largest organ and helps in storing energy.
It gets rid of toxins or waste.
The two kidneys are located in the back of the abdomen
on either side of the body. Their function is to filter THE KIDNEYS
blood and form urine, which is excreted from the body.
