Historical Background:

Chongqing's history is like a woven picture with stories from a long time ago
and changes happening now. A very, very long time ago, from 220 to 280 AD,
it was an important place for the army. People called it Yuzhou, and it was like
a strong fortress for a leader named Liu Bei. He started a place called Shu Han
and another smart leader named Zhuge Liang, also called Kongming, used
Chongqing to help make the Han dynasty strong again.

During World War II, Chongqing became famous all over the world as China's
main city during the war. This was a tough time with a lot of problems. The
Japanese army bombed the city a lot and it was very hard for the people who
lived there. Even now, you can still see the marks of that time in the city.
There are places like the Chongqing Anti-Japanese War Memorial that remind
us about what happened during the war.
Modern Chongqing:

In recent decades, Chongqing has undergone remarkable

urbanization and economic growth. It has emerged as an
economic and industrial powerhouse in China. The city's
strategic location along the Yangtze River, one of China's major
transportation arteries, has played a vital role in its
development.

One important celebration is the Dragon Boat Festival, which they call
Duanwu Festival in Chinese. Families get together to make and eat sticky rice
dumplings called zongzi. They also race dragon boats. Another celebration is
the Mid-Autumn Festival, also known as the Mooncake Festival. People use
lanterns and eat mooncakes to celebrate and be with their families.

Chongqing is also famous for its traditional operas, like Sichuan opera and
Shu opera. These shows have colorful costumes, fancy makeup and special
singing styles that people really enjoy. The stories they tell are often about

that make your mouth feel funny and dried red chili peppers that
