Personality Development
Grooming and personality presentation may be correlated to wearing of uniform,
personal hygiene, and personal appearance.
Having a “valet or butler’s kit” will help in maintaining personal appearance and will
help assist guests with little emergency problems that could come up from time to
time. A valet’s kit should include the following:
1. Small scissors or clippers 6. tweezers
2. Hair brush and comb 7. clothes brush
3. Polishing and application brushes for shoes 8. thumbtacks
4. Disposable gloves 9. nail varnish remover
5. Needle and an assortment of threads and buttons 10. stapler with staples

15. A small first aid kit, making sure there are several sizes of
plasters
16. Matches of lighter, a valet should always carry a lighter in
their pocket whenever guest needs one in lightning a cigarette.

There are strict requirements concerning the grooming and personal presentation
standards of valet or butler.
Standard grooming activities guarantee personal presentation and hygiene.
Standard grooming activities to be considered or applied may include the following:
1. Regular washing or bathing.
2. Use of a suitable deodorant to help prevent perspiration.
3. Use of slightly-scented aftershave or perfume. Strong perfume that is
predominant or over-powering must be avoided.
4. Make-up must be kept neutral for women. No excessive eye shadow and no
dramatic colors for lips and eyes.

5. Good personal hygiene habits and practices. Cuts and sores must be kept covered with a clean
dressing. Using a handkerchief or tissue as appropriate. No couching or sneezing near the guest or
food.
6. Men must be clean-shaven or have whiskers neatly trimmed. Many valets need to shave twice
per day to maintain a suitable appearance.
7. Hair must always be neat and tidy-brushed, combed, and tied back (if necessary). Regular
haircuts should be done to help maintain style and suitable appearance.
8. Hands and nails must be clean and well cared for at all times. Women should wear only neutral
polish, avoiding colors and nail decorations. Men and women must have properly manicured
nails.
9. Regular attention to teeth, meaning regular brushing of teeth and dental checks –ups to help
avoid bad breath.
10. Sufficient rest. It is necessary for a valet or butler to be alert and awake.

11. Always check appearance in a full-length mirror before
reporting for duty.
12. Maintain good posture.
13. Wear only basic jewelry.
Procedures in Performing Valet Services
. Policies and procedures relating to the stipulation of valet or
butler services can be expected to be relatively standard across
the industry.
Picking, checking, sorting, endorsing, and delivery of laundry.
one of the responsibilities of a valet or butler is to make sure
that all laundry used by the hotel as well as any guest laundry
requests are clean and delivered on time.
Below are specific task of a valet or
butler:
1. Responsible for the collection and delivery of guest laundry needs like dry cleaning,
pressing, and washing. Make sure all of the items are properly checked and labeled
correctly.
2. Work closely with the housekeeping and laundry team to deliver items on time.
3. Give feedback to the laundry supervisor of any poor quality service or any problems
like missing laundry items, delays, or damage items.
4. Ensure all laundry is inspected before dispatched.
5. Make sure that guest laundry, dry cleaning, and pressing are collected and returned
as quickly and efficiently as possible.
6. Check carefully the quality of guest items and the exact number before returning
them to guest.
Procedures in keeping Laundry Area
Clean
A lot of dirty works are done in the laundry area. It is therefore a must to keep
it clean and tidy by efficiently following a step-by-step guide:
1. Sort linen and other items to be washed and deliver them to required areas.
2. Maintain the laundry or valet work area in a tidy and orderly manner.
3. Observe all health & safety regulations when using laundry equipment.
4. Clear all clutter to avoid problems in work area.
5. Dispose properly stuff that is not to be used anymore. Make use of proper
disposal.
6. Clean walls and cabinets to avoid dirt buildup.

7. Clean laundry equipment using these steps:
• washer - sanitize the inside and clear away soap scum by using a vinegar.
•Dryer – wiping through a damp cloth or by using fabric softener sheet, take note
that it can cause buildup on the screen so wash or vacuum the area.
•Sink and countertops- clean by washing cleaner with a cloth and wipe the
faucet with a microfiber cloth.
•Floor- start cleaning from far corner of the area, vacuum rugs, and run a mop
underneath all equipment. Clean also areas behind the appliances.
•Iron- clean iron by making paste of baking soda and water to clean up mineral
deposits buildup.
