CIRCULATO
RY SYSTEM
CIRCULATORY SYSTEM
It works like a transportation
system inside the body that
delivers essential gases,
nutrients, minerals, to the
different parts of the body.
A. BLOOD
It is a tissue made of fluid, cells,
and fragments of cells. Blood
transports oxygen, carbon
dioxide, hormones, nutrients and
minerals.
It is 55% plasma and 45% formed
elements.
BLOOD
•Plasma
•Red Blood Cells (RBC)
•White Blood Cells (WBC)
•Platelets
1. PLASMA
Plasma is a yellowish fluid
that suspends blood cells,
collects waste materials,
and nourishes cells as it
flows throughout the body.
2. RBC (RED BLOOD CELLS)
It is also known as erythrocytes. They are
biconcave discs that contain the oxygen-
carrying protein called hemoglobin.

They are found in the bone marrow, in the

spleen and in the liver.

They can only live for about 120 days.

2. WBC (WHITE BLOOD
CELLS)
It is also known as leukocytes.
They are bigger than RBC and
contain large nuclei.

Their main function is to seek

and attack germ, viruses and
bacteria that enter the body.
TYPES OF WBC
1.Lymphocytes
2.Monocytes
3.Neutrophil
4.Basophil
5.Eosinophil
3. PLATELETS
It is also known as thrombocytes.
They repair tissue and close internal and
external wounds.
The lifespan of a platelet is about 5 to 9 days.

Homeostasis involves three mechanism:

Vasoconstriction
Platelet Plug Formation
COMPOSITION OF BLOOD
Vasoconstriction
Is the narrowing or constriction of the blood vessels, which is
usually observed in damaged blood vessels. This process is
important to minimize internal bleeding.

Platelet Plug Formation

When blood vessels are damaged, blood is exposed to
collagen fibers in the basement membrane of the vessel and
activate the platelets to release adenosine diphosphate
(ADP) and thromboxane which come together and form a
plug to close the open vessel.

Blood Clotting
Is the transformation of blood from liquid substance into
