Softshell turtles belong to the
suborder Testudinata under the
order Testudinata. They
originated in Asia in the late
Jurassic period about 150
million years ago and spread to
North America and Africa in the

ELL years ago. They mostly live in
freshwater habitats such as
TURTLE rivers, ponds, and rice fields.
There are 2 subfamilies, 13
genera, and about 30 species in
existence, some of which are the
largest freshwater turtles in
existence.
The soft-shell turtle has a
dark green body; the snout is
prominent and pig-like, and the
length and thickness vary
depending on the species; each
foot has only three claws, and
the toes are often webbed,
which can help it swim quickly.
Feature Compared with the species
called "turtles" in the order
Testudinata, the body of the
softshell turtle is relatively
flat, and the carapace is
composed of leathery soft skin
supported by visible ribs,
rather than hard and textured
horny shields, and its outer
edge is flexible and boneless,
called the "skirt".
Ancient Chinese medicine records that eating soft-
shell turtles cannot be eaten with eggs, rabbits,
pork, chicken, duck meat, and amaranth, otherwise
it will be useless. It should also be noted that
according to modern medical research, soft-shelled
turtles must be freshly slaughtered and cannot be
eaten after they have been dead for a while,
because soft-shelled turtles contain more
histidine, which is very easy to spoil after death.
Histidine can decompose to produce toxic histamine
Food substances, which can cause poisoning after eating.

taboos
Hepatitis patients should not eat soft-shell turtles
because of gastric mucosal edema, bile secretion
disorders and other factors, which greatly weaken their
digestion and absorption functions. Soft-shelled turtles
are rich in protein, which is not only difficult for
patients to absorb, but will also increase the burden on
the liver. In severe cases, a large number of liver cells
will die, serum bilirubin will increase sharply, and
plasma concentration will increase, inducing hepatic
coma.

mutton, beef, pork and venison,

greasy.
