INTRODUCTION
• Ita-Alamu is a vibrant community nestled in the Asa Local
Government Area within the heart of Ilorin, the capital city of Kwara
State, Nigeria.-
• As part of Ilorin, Ita-Alamu is situated in the southwestern part of
Nigeria. The geography of the area is characterized by the typical
Nigerian savanna terrain, with relatively flat land and scattered
vegetation. The climate is tropical, with distinct wet and dry
seasons.-
• Ita-Alamu, an Ilorin neighborhood nestled within Kwara State,
Nigeria, is a microcosm of the city's rich cultural tapestry. Ilorin,
renowned for its harmonious blend of Yoruba and Fulani traditions,
significantly shapes the demographic landscape of Ita-Alamu.
• Here are some key demographic aspects: -Population,
Administrative structure, Ethnicity Religion Economic Activity
HISTORICAL BACKGROUND
• It was a significant settlement area for the Yoruba people, specifically
the Igbomina subgroup, who migrated from the ancient Oyo Empire,
dated back to 18th century
• The name "Ita-Alamu" translates to "Alamu's rock" or "Alamu's stone,"
named after a prominent leader or founder, Alamu.
• Ita-Alamu stands as a testament to the intricate tapestry of history
woven into the fabric of Ilorin. Once a pivotal crossroads where Yoruba
and Fulani cultures converged, the area holds a revered place in the
region's annals.
• Ita-Alamu is a neighborhood in Ilorin deeply influenced by Yoruba and
Fulani cultures, with Islam as a predominant religion. –
• The neighborhood's challenges include those typical of urban areas
such as inadequate infrastructure, and limited access to essential
services. - Looking ahead, Ita-Alamu has the potential to become a

CHARACTERISTICS OF THE AREA
• Ita alamu is a major community in Ilorin with variety of structural
compositions. It has a major road passing through linking Ilorin to
the surrounding towns around it. It has a railway coming from post
office passing through and leading to ganmo, amoyo.
• It also consist of a mix of traditional and modern structures as well
as mixed use buildings that incorporates commercial and
residential units.
• The site is mostly characterized by bungalows and a storey
residential building. There might also be use of mixed-use buildings
that incorporates residential and commercial units.

current layout of the area, which was used to analyze the urban
renewal strategy to be carried out.

COMMUNITY NEEDS
• Ita-Alamu faces a complex set of interrelated challenges that
hinder its overall development. A combination of physical
infrastructure deficiencies, social issues, and economic constraints
have created a cycle of deprivation in the community.
• Some of the community needs include:-
Improved Security, Economic stability, Standard housing, Building
Aesthetics
• Notable Problems:-
Inadequate infrastructure, Poor state of residence, Aesthetic blight

CONCLUSION
• The urban renewal initiative in Ita-Alamu aims to comprehensively
transform the area into a thriving and sustainable community. By
prioritizing infrastructure provision and improvements, such as
motorable road networks in the neighborhood, efficient drainage
systems, and effective waste management, the project addresses
critical challenges and creates a healthier living environment.
• The incorporation of public amenities further enhances the area's
appeal and livability. To ensure long-term success, it is essential to
actively involve the community in the planning and implementation
processes. Through strategic investment and community
collaboration, Ita-Alamu can be revitalized into a vibrant and
resilient neighborhood.
