MULTIMEDIA
• The word multi and media are
combined to form the word
multimedia. The word “multi” signifies
“many.
• Multimedia is the presentation of text,
pictures, audio,animation, and video
with links and tools that allow the user
to navigate, engage, create, and
communicate using a computer.
Categories of
Multimedia
1. Linear Multimedia
•It is also called Non-interactive
multimedia.
•In the case of linear multimedia, the
end-user cannot control the content of
the application.
•Linear multimedia works very well for
providing information to a large group of
people such as at training sessions,
seminars, workplace meetings, etc.

2. Non-Linear Multimedia
•In Non-Linear multimedia, the end-user
is allowed the navigational control to
rove through multimedia content at his
own desire.
For example computer games, websites,
self-paced computer-based training
packages, etc.
5 Components of
Multimedia
1.)Text -is the written word in a book,
magazine, newspaper, manuscript, or
any other piece of writing. It’s the actual
wording of anything that’s printed or
written.
2.)Image -is a photograph
drawing/sketch, graphic, or any other
visual representation of an
idea/concept. Images are static in
nature as against dynamic videos.
3.)Audio -in the context of multimedia,
refers to the files and devices
associated with the ‘recording –
processing – storing – delivery’ of
audible sounds (voice, music, noise,
etc.)and can be delivered through
speakers or headphones.
4.)Video -involves the use of video
technology and refers to the
‘recording – processing – copying –
reproducing:
broadcasting/screening/display’ of
moving visuals/images, usually with
a soundtrack.
5.)Animation -refers to the technique
involving the rapid display of a
sequence of progressive, static images,
usually at 24 frames per second, to
produce the illusion of motion. In the
context of multimedia, it refers to the
technique, skills, and equipment used
to bring an idea/story/image to life.
MEDIA
• media are the outlets or tools used to store
and deliver content; semantic information
or subject matter of which the media
contains.
• Media comprises news, art, educational
content, and any form of information
that can reach or influence people,
including television, radio, books,
magazines, and the internet.
Types of media:
Print media: Print media refers to printed
materials, such as books and magazines,
that contain words and images.
ex: product packaging, brochures

Broadcast media: Broadcast media


includes information transmitted through
one of several mass communication
channels.
ex: TV, radio, magazines
Internet media: Internet media is
content distributed online.
ex: Facebook, messenger, Twitter, Instagram

Out-of-home media: Out-of-home


media, or OOH, is media that reaches
people when they are outside of their
homes.
ex: billboards, posters
The Importance of Understanding Media in
Today’s World
• Media plays a key role in people’s
everyday lives as it helps educate them
and enables them to keep track of the
day-to-day news, both local and global.
Media is the best platform for people to
get information about what’s happening
worldwide and down the street.
