Analysis of raft foundation on silty clay

1
Introduction of raft foundation
 One type of shallow foundation
 Large continuous rectangular or circular concrete slab
 Carries the entire load of the superstructure and spreads it on soil
 Minimum thickness of raft foundation is 300mm

Useful for :
 Controlling the differential settlement, lowering the pressure on the ground Source: civilwale.com/types-of-foundation/

 Strip foundation would cover more than 50% of the ground area
 Numbers of column footing overlap each other in one building
 Large variation in loading and settlement on column
 low SBC soil like and heavy loads are subjected

Plaxis
 As per plaxis tutorial book problem 1 case 2.
 Considered circular flexible footing in data raft given
of 100 m2 and considered circular footing for
equivalate area of given raft.
 /4*d2 = 100
 considered axisymmetric circular plate of 5.28m.
 EA and EI value of plate take as per plates parameter.
 M20 grade concrete considered.
 Soil layer 18m

comments:

maximum settlement of raft restricted to 75mm so we should take it in consideration during designing of raft.
Results of staddpro and plaxis different because both the software using different model or approach.
Manual and stadd pro settlement results are different specially in point load cases because in manual calculation point
load converted in area load.
