Knoll for Adobe Systems.
Late 80’s
- It was made for both Windows and Apple operating software
and was originally considered a pixel imaging program.
2015
- Photoshop was celebrated its 25th anniversary and has
sparked the creativity of millions of graphic designers all over
the world because of its fast, reliable and robust editing tools
1. Setting
up
documents
•When you start Photoshop CS6, the first
thing that you should do is create a new
document. This can be done by clicking
FILE > NEW

Shortcut keys:
Ctrl + N for Windows
Cmd + N for Apple
•After clicking NEW, the next step is to set
the parameters of the document. For this
exercise, click PRESET > Choose
International Paper >Click size, and
Choose A3 paper.
•Other presets include defaults
for photos, web, mobile and
video.

•Documents use portrait

orientation or vertical by default,
but can be changed to landscape
later on depending on the
reference of the user.
• 300 pixel/inch – default resolution of documents
under international paper because this is the most
flexible poster setting and considered the industry
standard quality for printing.
• 72 pixel/inch – keep your resolution of document if
it will only be displayed on digital screens like
for web and mobile.
• 100 to 200 pixels/inch – keep your
resolution if the material that you are designing is for
large format such as banners, streamers, and billboards.
• When you click on color mode, it gives you the option of
either RGB or CMYK

RGB( red, green, and blue color mode)

– is for any design that will be shown through digital
displays.

CMYK( cyan, magenta, yellow, and black color mode)

– is used for any graphic design material that will be
printed.

the next step is to learn how to
place images on the canvas.

•There are at least two ways of

placing an image:
1. Click FILE > PLACE > SEARCH
for the image in your computer
directory > then click PLACE.

2. Click FILE >OPEN > SEARCH > for

the image in your directory > then
drag the image to your canvas
•Any image that is placed in
photoshop can authomaticaly be
resized by :

1. Dragging one of the corners of

the image until the desired size
and proportions are achieved.
• An additional step is required in
resizing images, and that is by pressing
SHIFT while resize the image.

• This constrains the proportions and

makes sure that the image is not
distorted. Any image that is distorted
may look like unprofessionally done to
the eyes of the viewer.
• As you use the software, you will also learn
that the transform tool can modify the
rotation and orientation of any object.
