LITERATURE REVIEW
Gupta Abhishek (2024) et.al : Tinospora cordifolia, commonly known as Giloy or Guduchi, is a widely
used medicinal plant in traditional medicine systems, particularly in India and other Asian countries. This plant has
long been revered for its therapeutic properties, with its use spanning the treatment of a wide range of diseases such
as metabolic disorders, immune-related issues, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and infections. Over the years,
scientific investigations have revealed various bioactive phytochemical compounds in T. cordifolia, primarily
isolated from its stem, roots, and whole plant. These compounds have shown potential in supporting diverse
pharmacological activities, contributing to the plant’s growing recognition in the field of modern medicine.
Mahajan Shurti (2024) et.al : Tinospora cordifolia (Giloy), a member of the Menispermaceae family, is
widely recognized for its diverse therapeutic applications due to the presence of a broad spectrum of secondary metabolites. To
understand the genetic basis of its medicinal properties, a comprehensive genomic study was carried out using state-of-the-art
sequencing technologies, including 10× Genomics linked read and Nanopore long-read technologies. The genome sequencing
of T. cordifolia resulted in a draft genome assembly of 1.01 Gbp (gigabase pairs). Genome size estimation revealed a slightly
larger genome of 1.13 Gbp. This makes T. cordifolia the first plant from the Menispermaceae family to have its genome
sequenced. The sequencing provided valuable insights into the genetic structure of the plant, which can be directly correlated
with its medicinal properties.
LITERATURE REVIEW
Kumar, M. Vijaya (2024) et.al : Tinospora cordifolia (Tc), also known as Giloy, is a herbaceous
vine that has been used for centuries in traditional medicine systems, particularly in India, for its broad therapeutic effects.
Among its many purported benefits, T. cordifolia is most notably regarded for its potential anti-cancer properties. This
systematic study reviews the existing scientific literature to evaluate the medicinal potential of T. cordifolia in combating
various forms of cancer. Tinospora cordifolia (Giloy) holds significant promise as a potential supplementary treatment for
cancer. Its demonstrated anti-proliferative, apoptotic, and anti-metastatic effects, coupled with its ability to influence key
cancer-related pathways, suggest it could play a valuable role in integrated cancer therapy. However, the limitations in the
current body of research, particularly the lack of robust clinical trials, underscore the need for further investigations to fully
understand its therapeutic potential.
Ahsan Rabiya ( 2023) et.al : Tinospora cordifolia is a versatile herb with a wide range of
pharmacological effects, making it an important candidate for drug development in traditional and modern medicine. While its
therapeutic potential is promising, more clinical and pre-clinical studies are needed to fully understand its efficacy and to
establish it as a reliable treatment for COVID-19, endocrine disorders, and neurological conditions. The growing interest in
this plant highlights the need for scientific validation and large-scale research to harness its full potential in healthcare .
AIM AND OBJECTIVE
Aim: Tinospora cordifolia (Giloy):A Review of the Various Pharmacological Pathways of a Highly Potential
Medicinal Ayurveda Plant
Objectives
To find the Chemical Constituents of Giloy
To find the pharmacological action of Giloy
To find all active ingredients present in Giloy
RATIONALE OF STUDY
Traditional Importance : Widely used in Ayurveda as a rejuvenating herb for treating fever, infections, diabetes,
and inflammation
Rich in Bioactive Compounds : Contains alkaloids, flavonoids, and glycosides with therapeutic potential.
Immune Booster : Known for its immunomodulatory effects, especially relevant in enhancing natural immunity.
Anti-inflammatory and Antioxidant : Helps manage chronic conditions like arthritis and cardiovascular
diseases.
Antipyretic
and Antimicrobial : Effective in treating fevers and infections .
Chronic Disease Management: Aids in diabetes, liver health, and neuroprotection .
Global Demand for Herbal Medicine : Supports evidence-based integration of natural
remedies into healthcare .
Safety and Standardization : Requires scientific validation for safe usage and dosage .
CONCLUSION
T. cordifolia's chemical diversity has been reviewed here. Antioxidant,
antibacterial, anti-HIV, analgesic, anti-fungal, antiproliferative, and anti-epileptic
are a few of the many possible effects. Its curative qualities have been well
recognized. Potential future treatments for a variety of clinical disorders may
include isolating pure lead compounds from the plant portion or from endophytic
fungi separated from various areas of the plant. As a result, this evaluation serves
both a scientific and clinical function in the quest for new therapeutics.
