Instruction for tutorial class (1st hour: 9:10 to 10:10am) :

1. Total 8 numbers of questions will be given. 4 questions for odd and even roll
numbers respectively. Syllabus: 2 and 3 (Only Numerical and Derivations)
2. Time: 35 Minutes
3. All should write in FM class note only. Don't copy from any other ways.
4. Treat this as Preparation for Exam and do it Sincerely.
Questions
1. Derive Euler’s equation of motion along a stream line flow and from this obtain a
Bernoulli’s equation. State clearly the assumptions involved in the derivation.
2. The water is flowing through a tapering pipe having diameters 300 mm and 150
mm at sections 1 and 2 respectively. The discharge through the pipe is 40
litres/sec. The section 1 is 10 m above datum and section 2 is 6 m above datum.
Find the intensity of pressure at section 2 if that at section 1 is 400 kN/m 2.
3. Water is flowing through a pipe having diameters 600 mm and 400 mm at the
bottom and upper end respectively. The intensity of pressure at the bottom end is
350 kN/m2 and the pressure at the upper end is 100 kN/m2. Determine the
difference in datum head if the rate of flow through the pipe is 60 litres/sec.
4. In a 45° bend a rectangular air duct of 1m2 cross-sectional area is gradually
reduced to 0.5 m2 area. Find the magnitude and direction of force required to hold
the duct in position if the velocity of flow at 1 m2 section is 10 m/s, and pressure is
30 kN/m2. Take the specific weight of air as 0.0116 kN/m3.
5. Figure shows a differential manometer connected at two
points A and B. At A air pressure is 100 kN/m2. Find the
absolute pressure at B.
6. A 300 mm × 150 mm venturimeter is provided in a vertical pipeline carrying oil of
specific gravity 0.9, flow being upward. The difference in elevation of the throat
section and entrance section of the venturimeter is 300 mm. The differential U-
tube mercury manometer shows a gauge deflection of 250 mm. Take the co-
efficient of meter as 0.98 and specific gravity of mercury as 13.6. Calculate:
(i) The discharge of oil, and
(ii) The pressure difference between the entrance section and the throat section.
7. A rectangular channel 1·5 m wide has a discharge of 0·2 m 3/s, which is measured
by a right-angled V-notch-weir. Find the position of the apex of the notch from
the bed of the channel. if the maximum depth of water is not to exceed 1 m.
Assume Cd = 0·62.

8. A large tank has a sharp edged circular orifice of 930 mm 2 area at a depth of 3 m
below constant water level. The jet issues horizontally and in a horizontal distance
of 2.4 m, it falls by 0.53 m, the measured discharge is 4.3 lit/s. Determine
coefficients of velocity, contraction and discharge for the orifice.
