ADOBE PHOTOSHOP
DAY 1
• Adobe Photoshop is a graphics editing software developed
by Adobe. It has become the most used tool for
professional digital art .
• Extension for photoshop files id “.PSD”, which stands for
photoshop document.
• A PSD file has a maximum height and width of
30,000 pixels, and a size limit of two gigabytes.
FEATURES
• It has a user-friendly interface.
• Photo editing requires less time and effort.
• It has powerful tools to enhance the colour of an image.
• It can resize the pictures.
• It can remove the background.
• It can be used to select precise parts of an image.
• Photoshop can create graphics for web applications with reduced file size n.
• We can add as many layers as we need with Photoshop.
• It can create 3D icons.
COMPONENTS:
 Photoshop interface: The first window that opens when Photoshop is
launched
 Title Bar: It is the top most bar of the Photoshop Window. It contains
Maximize, Minimize and Close buttons.

 Menu Bar: It contains the main menu commands.


 Property Bar: It is located below the menu bar, displaying the various
commands that change according to the active tool.

 Tools Box: It contains various tools available in Adobe Photoshop.


COMPONENTS:
 Image Title Bar: It displays information about the image opened in
Photoshop.

 Rulers: They are present along the top and left side of the image and
help in positioning it.

 Image Window: It contains the image to be edited.

 Status Bar: It is located at the bottom of every document window and


displays information like current magnification, file size, etc.
CREATING A NEW FILE
• To create a new file in Adobe Photoshop, the following steps are to be followed:
• Select ‘File’ from the Menu bar.
• Click on ‘New’.
• From the New dialog box, specify the following:
> Name-Assign a name to the file.
> Width and Height - Enter the dimensions for your new file. The default unit is pixels but you can
choose from cm, points or picas.
> Resolution - It is the number of pixels per inch. The image is sharper with higher resolution but the file
size becomes bigger.
> Color Mode - It decides the number of colors that can appear in the image. Bitmap, grayscale, RGB
color, CMYK color are the options from which we can choose the colour of our file.
> Background Contents - We can choose from white background color and transparent.
Click on ‘OK’.
• A new blank file opens on the screen.

TOOLS PANEL
The various tools in the tool panel allow us to
draw shapes, fill, colour and edit images. There
are 4 kinds of tools in the tool panel:
SELECTION TOOLS include Magic wand, Quick
Selection Tool, Marquee and Lasso tools.

PAINTING TOOLS include paintbrush, stamp,


Gradient, Eraser, Blur and Dodge.

TEXT AND PEN TOOLS include Pen, Type, Path,


Shapes and Rotate Tools.

VIEW TOOLS include Zoom Tool and Hand


Tool.
SELECTION TOOLS
MARQUEE TOOLS
They are used to select areas of an
image in rectangular, square,
elliptical or circular shapes. The
various Marquee tools are:
• Rectangular
• Elliptical
• Single Row
• Single column
LASSO TOOLS
• These tools are used to make-free-
hand selections in an image. It is a
bunch of three very useful tools that
are used for selecting irregular shapes.
• Lasso Tools are used to make free-
form selections in the desired shape.
• Polygonal Lasso Tool is to select
polygonal areas by clicking at
different points.
• Magnetic Lasso Tool sticks to the
edges of the image thus making the
selection easy.
MAGIC WAND TOOL
This tool is used to select the adjacent areas of the same colour in an image. This tool is
used to select pixels based on colour values. Therefore, we can cut out the foreground
objects from the background. This tool helps in selecting objects that are primarily in one
colour like blue sky, blue umbrella, etc. To apply this, we need to fill the following in the
options bar:
• Tolerance - It refers to the sensitivity of colour
differences. The tolerance ranges from 0 to 255.
The higher the tolerance setting value, the wider
the range of selected pixels.
• Anti-Alias- It produces a smooth edge by partially
filling the edged pixels.
• Contiguous - It selects only adjacent areas having
the same colors. On un-checking this option, all the
pixels in the image within the same tolerance range will be selected.
DAY 2
DRAWING TOOLS
• Adobe Photoshop has a collection of drawing tools that are used to
draw various shapes that are listed below in the picture:
PAINTING TOOLS
Adobe Photoshop allows us to use certain painting tools that
are required for creating artworks.
 Brush Tool : It has four styles -
• Brush tool – To draw strokes like a paint brush.
• Pencil tool- To draw or write like a pencil.
• Color Replacement tool - to replace a particular
colour by another colour .

 Gradient Tool: This tool is used to create backgrounds with


shades blending together. It creates a blend between two or
more colours. The Gradient tool is used to fill a selected area or
an entire layer with a gradient.

 Paint Bucket Tool: This tool is used to fill parts of the image
with different colours based in the tolerance.
HAND TOOL
• This tool is used to move an image around while
zoomed in, or to get a closer look at a specific part
of an image. While using any other tool, we can
press the spacebar to use the hand tool.

TEXT TOOL
• This tool allows users to create both horizontal and
vertical type..
Whenever a type is created, a new Type layer is
added to the layers palette.

CROPPING TOOL: Crop tool is used to remove
unwanted areas of an image.

MOVE TOOL: Move tool is used to move a part of an


image from one place to another. To move, open the
image and select the part using marquee or lasso tools,
then click the move tool in the toolbar. Pacing the mouse
pointer over the image, drag the mouse to move the
selected part to desired location.
WORKING WITH IMAGES
COPYING IMAGE: While working with images, we can copy a
part of image to another location: on the same image or to another image .
• To Copy on the Same Image:
Open the image.
Select an area using the Marquee or Lasso tool.
Click on the Move Tool in the tools panel.
Press the Alt key and drag the selection to another location.
• To Copy on a Different Image:
Open the image and select the desired part.
Select ‘Edit’ and click on ‘Copy’.
Go to the destination image.
Select ‘Edit’ and click on ‘Paste’.
Press the Alt key and drag the selection to
another location.

DAY 3
ACTIVITY FOR STUDENTS

•Task 1: Extract some objects from one image and paste to another
image to create a new idea (for example, try putting Doraemon,
Shinchan, Tom, Oggy in the same frame.)

• Task 2: Get a picture with morning background. Change the


background to that of sunset.
