HOLINESS AND

CHRISTIAN
CONDUCT
Foundation Scriptures: Heb 12:14; Rom 12: 1-2; I
Peter 1:15-19; 2 Tim 2:19-22
INTRODUCTION
 When a person receives Christ, his
spirit is recreated and becomes brand
new – he becomes born-again (II Cor.
5:17)

 A born-again person is a completely


new creature. He receives the life and
nature of God (Eph 5:8-11; 1 Jn 3:1-
9) . These include:Righteousness,
Faith, Love, Holiness
NATURE OF GOD

 He also receives
the indwelling of
the Holy Spirit
 We must renew our minds (souls)
through the word of God (Rom 12:2) and
keep our bodies under subjection to the
will of God(1 Cor 9:27).

1. Live in hope
2. The impossible looks
reasonable
3. You live in peace and you don’t
worry. Your speculations are
positive
4. You are quick to forgive and
you are free to give others
grace and mercy.

5. You love yourself and you
rejoice in your weakness. God
flawed you on purpose for
where you are weak, He is
strong.
6. You are confident and thankful.
There is a difference between
confidence & arrogance –
arrogance doesn’t know
gratitude.

7. You believe in others and you
give them the benefit of doubt.
When you have a renewed mind
you’ll always ask yourself WWJD!
HOLINESS

Holiness is a divine attribute of God


received at the new birth (II Peter 1:3-
4).
It means :
 To be pure in thought, habit and
entire lifestyle.
 To be separated, consecrated and
dedicated to the use and purpose of
God (II Cor. 7:1).
IMPORTANCE OF
HOLINESS
1. It is an instruction from God that must
be obeyed (Matt 5: 48, I Peter 1: 15-17,
Lev 20:7).

2. It is the scriptural standard for the


normal Christian life (Heb 3:1, Eph
4:24).

3. It is a condition for receiving God’s


blessings and our inheritance (Obad
1:17, Ps. 66:18, Heb 12:14).
HOW CAN WE LIVE
HOLY?
1. Walk in the consciousness of the new
creation (I Pet 2:9, Eph 4:24).
2. Decide to live a holy life. It’s a
matter of discipline (I Cor. 9: 27, Rom
6:14, Col 4:2).
3. Devote your time to spiritual things
and be conscious of God’s ever
abiding presence.
4. Depend on the sanctifying power of
God through the Holy Spirit (1 Cor

5. Renew your mind through the word
(Phil 4:8, Ps 119:9-11).
6. Recognise that you already have
complete victory over sin (Rom6:1-4,
Gal2:20).
CHRISTIAN
CONDUCT
• A Christian should conduct his affairs
in such a way that it reflects the
gospel of Jesus Christ (Phil 2:14-15,
Col 4:6).
• Whatsoever you do, do it to the glory
of God (1 Cor 10:31).
• The evidence of the indwelling of the
Holy Spirit in the believer is that the
fruit of the spirit manifests in his/her
conduct (Matt 7:20).
THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT
(GAL 5: 22-23)
 LOVE: God’s kind of unconditional love –
Agape (Jn 13:34-35, I Cor. 13: 4-8).

 JOY: Inner gladness independent of


circumstance (Jn 15:11 Thess 5:16, 18)

 PEACE: Calmness, quietness, rest,


irrespective of circumstance (Phil 4:6-7, Jn
16:33, Jn 14:27)
THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT
(GAL 5: 22-23)
 LONG SUFFERING: To bear long with
offences and provocation without
murmuring (I Cor. 13: 4-7, Eph 4:1-3. Col
3:12-13)

 GENTLENESS: To be refined in character and


conduct. Not rough (II Tim. 2: 23-25).

 GOODNESS: Having the right virtues, willing


to give satisfaction, and help to others
(Acts 10:38, Eph 5:9, Rom 2:4, Jer 31:12).
THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT
(GAL 5: 22-23)
 FAITH: Total confidence and trust in God
and His word (Matt. 25:21-23, Col 1:7).

 MEEKNESS: Patient, humble and not easily


angered. Phil 2:6-8, Jn 13:1-9).

 TEMPERANCE: Self-control in speech and


behaviour. James 3:2, Pro 16:32, Pro 25:16,
Phil 4:5)
HOW TO CULTIVATE THE
FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT
• Know that you are a new creature (II
Cor. 5:17).
• Study and meditate on the scriptures
relevant to Christian conduct (Ps.
119:11; Phil 4:8).
• Determine to walk in the spirit and
bring forth fruits of righteousness (Gal
5:16-18; Rom 13:14)
• Yield always to the Holy Ghost in your
NUGGETS

• When we ger born-again, we receive


the nature of God which includes
holiness.
• The Holy Spirit who dwells in us at the
new birth brings forth fruit.
• These fruit of the spirit manifest in our
conduct as Christians,
