Plural nouns
-refer to two or more persons,
animals, places, things or
events. Plural words are formed
by adding –s or -es at the end of
the words as well as words
ending with -x, -z, -ch and –sh.
Rules to follow in
forming plural
form of regular
nouns:
Add an –s to singular
nouns.
Examples:
girl - girls
door - doors
bag - bags

with O
If preceded with a vowel, add –s to
make it plural. If preceded with a
consonant, add –es to form the
plural.
Example:

or -f
Change –f or –fe into v and adding -
es.
Examples : elf – elves

sh, s, and x.
Examples:
coach - coaches
sash - sashes

Plural Nouns ending
with -y
If the letter preceding letter -y is a vowel,
add –s to form the plural. If the letter
preceding letter -y is a consonant, change
letter -y to –i, then add –es to form the
plural.
Examples :
Preceded by vowels
day – days
toy – toys
Preceded by consonants
lily – lilies
buddy – buddies
