Featured TV on DVD Review: The Robot Chicken Walking Dead Special: Look Who's Walking

March 22nd, 2018

The Robot Chicken Walking Dead Special

Robot Chicken started its ninth season last fall, which is very impressive for any show. It is doubly so for a show with an obviously high-concept beginning. High-concept shows tend to burn out quickly. Does this show still have what it takes to entertain? Or is it running on inertia at this point? More...

2014 Preview: September

September 1st, 2014

The Equalizer poster

August was a great month, it is as simple as that. Not only did Guardians of the Galaxy break records, but Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was a surprise hit as well. These early gains led to an extended winning streak in the year-over-year comparison. Granted, 2014 is still more than $300 million behind 2013, but this is substantially less than the gap was before the month. Can September maintain this run? I'm not sure. Last September was strong compared to most Septembers with Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs 2 earning more than $100 million while Insidious Chapter 2 came relatively close. This year, there likely won't be any $100 million hits, but I think The Equalizer should at least come close. Meanwhile, there are some who think The Maze Runner will be the biggest hit of the month, but I'm not among them. There have been too many similar releases that have struggled to think this one will be a hit. I think September will get off to a terrible start, but overall I think it will be close to last year. Featured TV on DVD Review: Robot Chicken: Season Six

October 7th, 2013

Why do I do this to myself? I loved the first few seasons of Robot Chicken, but I dropped most of my cable channels a couple years back. (I only watched 3 of the 40 or so channels in the package, so it wasn't worth the money.) When I got a chance to review the show, I jumped at the chance. But now that I've seen the sixth season, I realized I'm stuck. How do you review a TV show that is comprised of short sketches? Some of these sketches are so short that it would take longer to type the setup than it would be to watch the entire skit and you would certainly spoil the joke in the process. (On that note, don't go to the Wikipedia page for season six. They spoil some jokes in the episode descriptions.) So while the show is really hard to review without spoilers, will it be an easy recommendation? More...

Featured DVD Review: Sexy Evil Genius

April 6th, 2013

Sexy Evil Genius is a film with a pretty impressive cast, but there are no reviews on Rotten Tomatoes, there are nearly no news about the movie online, there's really nothing. Does it deserve to be on more people's radar? Or was is destined to fade away virtually undiscovered. More...
