Earlier, the petitioner's counsel submitted that Prof Dr Riazuddin Sheikh had introduced an inexpensive injection of interferon during his posting as head of the CAMB. However, he said, a mafia of multinational pharmaceutical companies and the ministry officials had put hurdles in the sale of the cheap injection in the market.

The petitioner said the companies with the help of officials managed to remove Dr Sheikh from the project and appointed Dr Iqbal as head of the CAMB. He further said that Dr Sheikh was also dragged into false inquiries, however, he successfully proved himself innocent.
