(lo͝o′bo͝om-bä′shē) Formerly E·lis·a·beth·ville (ĭ-lĭz′ə-bəth-vĭl′) A city of southeast Democratic Republic of the Congo near the Zambia border. Founded in 1910, it was the center of a secessionist state during the 1960-1963 civil war.
