(yăk′ə-mə, -mô′) A city of south-central Washington in the eastern foothills of the Cascade Range southeast of Seattle. It grew as a processing center for the fertile valley of the Yakima River, which flows about 340 km (210 mi) generally southeast to the Columbia River near Richland.
