These thirty-two words deal with memory, decay, and nostalgia, from the emotionally charged to the banal, from suffer and terror and glories to lunch and sofa and aargh--as in, there are the glories of recorded history and then the audience's possible reaction, "
Aargh, give me a break." Finally, at the very end, entirely different source material appears, derived from the films of Sarah Bernhardt and an HBO special by Robin Williams.
The third appendix shows a very interesting list of suggested reading, and the fourth discusses Clause 28, an English law that attempted to deny the existence of homosexuality, and where the roots of this poem has it's place, as the work first appeared in a comic (
AARGH!) created in protest of this law.

Aargh. The pointing of a gun at a human being, or otherwise making it reasonably and prudently clear to that person that you were about to shoot him, constitutes the very serious felony of aggravated assault.
