As we head into awards season, Tilda Swinton says it is important not to take the hoohah seriously — though Los Angeles has rather bigger concerns at the moment. The Oscar-winning actress told Stephen Colbert that one year she grew so bored at being asked for favourite films that she made some up. Her picks included Tears on a Napkin, in which she felt Curtsy Thrust gave a career-defining performance, and a musical called Thwack!. At a party the next day, Swinton found she had generated some buzz when one reporter told her: “I hear Curtsy is incomparable.”

According to Radio 3’s breakfast news on Wednesday, “morning coffee-drinkers were 16 per cent less likely to die than people who drank no coffee”. Perhaps
