The best things to do in Miami in November

The best things to do in Miami in November

November in Miami is heavenly. The leaves don’t really change colors and it's still pretty damn hot (a pro if you’re looking to sun your bum on Miami beaches), but the city does take on a decidedly more celebratory spirit as we sprint toward the holidays. Plus, we haven't reached peak tourist season yet. (Just wait until Art Basel Miami Beach strikes in the first week of December.) By now, locals are embracing all things fall, making the obligatory pilgrimages to pumpkin patches across Miami and getting hyped for the festive season thanks to the many Christmas lights in Miami going up this month. And that’s just the start of it. Below, peruse our running list of November events in Miami that should absolutely be on your calendar. RECOMMENDED: Miami events calendar

Halloween Horror Nights 2024 at Universal Orlando: our ultimate guide to tickets, dates and more

Halloween Horror Nights is back for its 33rd year, operating for another terrifying 48 nights from August 30 through November 3. Despite its tagline warning to “Never Go Alone,” last year was my first-ever trip to the event, and I went by myself. It was all worth it to bring you, dear reader, this comprehensive guide to Universal Orlando Resort’s Halloween Horror Nights, which we have updated with new information for 2024, including information on tickets, dates, the theme, rides and more. I’m the first to admit I can be a little bit of a scaredy cat. Regardless, as a fan of all things spooky and a fan of Universal Orlando, I knew I had to check it out. The event is often regarded as one of the premier Halloween events in the country (and a popular destination for Halloween in Miami), for good reason: It includes original Universal content and also brings beloved spooky season titles like A Quiet Place, Ghostbusters and Insidious to life.  Based on my first-look experience of Halloween Horror Nights, I absolutely love this event. Year after year since 1991, the dedication to theming, incredibly talented scare actors and movie-quality set design make this a must-do for fans of haunts and Halloween—and 2024 is no different.  Photograph: Courtesy NBCUniversalHalloween Horror Nights 2024 RECOMMENDED: The best haunted house in Miami What are Halloween Horror Nights at Universal Orlando? These haunted places in Miami are creepy as hell

Miami: a sunny place for shady people—and ghosts. I’m not talking about those regrettable hookups from Hinge’s past. I’m referring to the earthbound spirits who haven’t yet found a door to the afterlife. Whether it’s murderous pioneers from the early 1900s, nefarious mobsters and cartel lords of the 1920s or 1980s, or WWII soldiers who opted to “stick around” rather than be deployed, Miami has its fair share of paranormal inhabitants that haunt us in the present day, including some pretty famous graves. In place of the colonial taverns and Victorian mansions often associated with the dearly departed, we’ve got grand villas, spooky cemeteries and even some ghost towns if you’re down for a day trip. Grab a ghost detector (and maybe a sage stick) and check out Miami’s most haunted places.  RECOMMENDED: The best pumpkin patches in Miami

Halloween in Miami falls on a Tuesday this year, which means you’re more likely to celebrate “Halloweek.” During the day, you might pop into your local pumpkin patch, check out the haunted real estate around town or test your reflexes at a good old-fashioned haunted house in Miami. If you’ve landed on this page, however, you’re probably looking to party well beyond the witching hour. It’s official: two of the world’s best pizza restaurants are in Miami

Another year has gone by and Miami continues to punch above its weight when it comes to one very important thing: pizza.  Earlier this week, 50 Top Pizza announced its 2024 ranking for the best pizzas in the entire world, and two Miami restaurants cracked the top 60: La Leggenda (No. 45) and ‘O Munaciello (No. 55). Both restaurants were previously recognized by the Italian pizza authority last year—though only ‘O Munaciello ranked among the world’s 50 best, taking the 25th spot. La Leggenda ranked No. 73 in the world in 2023, so the Miami Beach pizzeria has made quite the leap in the last year. The 50 Top Pizza Guide to the Best Pizzerias in the world is a comprehensive ranking carried out by inspectors over a year as they evaluate pizzerias across the planet, strictly adhering to a policy of anonymity. The assessment criteria focus on the quality of the dough and the ingredients used for the toppings. Factors like service quality, wine and beverage offerings and overall customer experience are also considered. Here’s what the guide had to say, in part, about its Miami selection this year: La Leggenda, South Beach “The restaurant resembles Naples in every way, even in its folkloric aspects. On the menu you will find appetizers, salads, and pasta, with the gnocchi alla sorrentina being particularly good, in addition to the pizzas, of course. The dough is contemporary Neapolitan, well-leavened, airy, and very digestible. The Nerano pizza, a reinterpretation of the classic pasta

This Miami Vietnamese spot was just named one of the best new restaurants in the U.S.

Bon Appétit just dropped its annual list of the 20 best new restaurants in the United States, and Tâm Tâm in Downtown Miami has made the cut. It’s the only Florida restaurant to do so, and a pretty big accomplishment, especially when you consider how tightly curated the lineup is. Tâm Tâm has been on our radar since its fledgling days as a roaming pop-up and quickly climbed toward the top of our own list of the best restaurants in Miami since opening its brick-and-mortar location last summer. The restaurant also earned a Michelin Bib Gourmand award earlier this year. “Chef Tam Pham and his husband, sommelier Harrison Ramhofer, have created a funky diner vibe that extends to a bathroom equipped with a hidden karaoke machine,” reads the review from BA. “Outside, patrons chill on colorful plastic stools drinking natural wine, while in the dining room they lounge on floral vinyl banquettes and order off a menu that’s Vietnamese with a hint of Miami flair.” The writeup goes on to highlight signature Tâm Tâm dishes, like the goat curry “bathed in chili oil and served with Chinese egg noodles and a flurry of herbs,” tangy and fragrant Key West shrimp crudo and peppery, shareable lamb wraps.  “What I wanted to incorporate into the menu were things I ate growing up and loved,” Pham told us. “I wanted everyone to have the same experience.” Other major American foodie cities like Houston, Austin and Boston failed to garner any recognition from the culinary magazine this year, and

Miami has spoken: We want more trains—and it looks like we might actually get them

Miami could be getting a whole lot more interconnected over the next few years.  Last month, a ballot measure in the Miami-Dade primary election asked voters what they needed from Miami-Dade County transit, and a whopping 80% said they wanted more options. In response, Miami-Dade County Mayor Daniella Levine Cava announced a proposal that will fully fund transit reserves, according to CBS News. "The fact that the public has just given a clear message, we're going to find a way to move forward with those full reserves," Levine Cava said in the county's first public budget meeting this week. "That's the plan." RECOMMENDED: I hopped on the Brightline to experience South Florida’s art scene firsthand. Here’s what you need to know Anyone who's spent time in Miami will tell you that our public transportation network is woefully lacking. Yes, ours might be the largest public transit system in Florida, but on a national level we rank as the 15th-largest, despite being the country's ninth-largest metropolitan area. This South Florida airport has the longest TSA wait times in the U.S.

Have you flown out of Fort Lauderdale lately? If so, you probably won’t be shocked to learn that although it’s smaller and easier to navigate than Miami International, South Florida’s second-largest airport is much slower when it comes to getting through security. In fact, it’s the slowest in the nation. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport—a major hub for Allegiant Air, JetBlue and Spirit Airlines—has the longest TSA security line of any large airport hub in the country, according to a new study. Travelers are spending an average of 15 minutes and 27 seconds ambling through the line before they can finally kick back and relax at their gate (or the Air Margaritaville bar). That’s a whopping 13 minutes and 19 seconds longer than O'Hare International Airport in Chicago, which had the fastest average TSA lines in the study. Another Florida airport, Tampa International, came in at No. 11 with a snail-like average TSA wait time of 10 minutes and 20 seconds. The study was conducted by data collection experts SOAX, who analyzed data from Qsensor on security wait times at America's 31 largest airport hubs (over 10 million passengers in 2023). TSA wait times were gathered for each hour of each day of the week, creating an average for each airport and highlighting the busiest and least busy times to go through security. One of the world’s 100 best schools is in Miami

One of the world’s 100 best schools is in Miami

In the realm of Miami small talk, few topics get people as riled up as where you went to high school. (I grew up in Broward, so I get to politely excuse myself from such conversations.) Not only does your alma mater speak to the neighborhood where you grew up, but it's also a quick way to judge the sort of person you are. If you went to Ransom Everglades, apparently, you can count yourself among the world’s most elite pupils.  That’s according to Spear’s, a European research magazine geared toward ultra-high-net-worth (UHNW) individuals. Spear’s released its annual Schools Index 2024 ranking, which assesses schools’ academic standing as well as social and cultural factors through data collection, online forms and interviews. Since 2020, the index has published its list of the 100 best schools on the planet. Only one Florida school made the cut for 2024 out of 19 total selections in North America. Schools are ranked as either “Top Flight,” indicating that it is one of the 100 leading private schools in the world, or “Top Recommended,” which indicates a very high-caliber school just outside the top 100. Ransom Everglades in the heart of Coconut Grove received the “Top Flight” designation. “The school strives to develop students who pride themselves on their academic rigor alongside their morals,” reads the Spear’s review. “Its carefully curated curriculum is reflective of this; students are taught to be independent thinkers, capable of collaborating with others but confident en

Forget the haters: When Miamians and New Yorkers come together in harmony, they can create truly beautiful things. Take, for instance, this new ice cream sandwich collaboration between two of the cities’ trendiest purveyors of delicious treats.
