Argo

Argo

Argo is Four Seasons Hotel's multi-awarded bar, started by its former beverage manager and Time Out's 2020 Bartender of the Year, Lorenzo Antinori. The bar docked in Hong Kong in 2021 to challenge the way we think about drinks. As part of the second phase of the hotel's renovation, it replaced the former Blue Bar located in the hotel's lobby.  Compared to Caprice bar, located on the sixth floor of the hotel, which has a more formal setting and focuses on wines and cocktails with seasonal ingredients, Argo is more relaxed, highlights innovative spirits, and offers a conceptual cocktail programme.  Their inaugural cocktail menu, 'Here Today, Gone Tomorrow,' – Time Out's Best Cocktail Programme winner in 2021 – celebrates six staple ingredients – coffee, honey, rice, cacao, vanilla, and apples – that face an uncertain future because of climate change or the way it is cultivated. Replacing this menu in 2022, the bar launched the second volume of its cocktail menu, Cook Book, inspired by Hong Kong's culinary traditions. The menu features 12 new cocktails using soybean, apricot kernel, XO sauce, vegan char siu, black vinegar, and aged tea.  Spirit aficionados can explore unique liquors – available in 50ml shots, tasting flights, or as a classic cocktail – with the help of the bar's spirit bible, 'Field Guide to the World's Innovative Spirits', that highlights each bottle's unique story and origin. Interesting bottlings include the world's first AI-created gin Monker's Garkel, lab-m

A.P.E (A Perfect Escape)

A.P.E (A Perfect Escape)

Brainchild of the same people behind Tiffany’s New York Bar, A.P.E’s collection focuses on limited-quantity whiskies. Simply push through the frosted glass door at the back of Esc Coffee to find an intimate, industrial-chic whisky den. Their menu features over 30 types of Scotch which can be enjoyed in tasting flights or drams. But we’d recommend turning your attention to offerings from Independent Bottlers like Douglas Laing and Asta Morris, or Original Bottling from Ardbeg, Clynelish, Lagavulin, Bruichladdich, and Auchentoshan distilleries. Review (March 2023): A.P.E (A Perfect Escape) is a small hidden whisky bar tucked inside Esc coffeeshop in Tin Hau. The venue is brought to you by the same people behind InterContinental Grand Stanford's 1920s-style Tiffany's New York Bar. But compared to Tiffany's posh and classic gentleman's bar interior, A.P.E is more relaxed with a raw industrial design made for the younger crowd. The menu features over 30 bottles of Scotch from Speyside, Highland, Islay, and Lowland regions which can be tasted in three flight selections or as 30ml single drams (from $80 to $520, depending on the bottle). You can find whiskies from Independent Bottlers Douglas Laing, Thompson Bros, Elixir Distillers, and Asta Morris, among others, as well as Original Bottlings from Ardbeg, Clynelish, Lagavulin, Bruichladdich, and Auchentoshan distilleries. Those who want to drink cocktails can also choose from six classic whisky cocktails, including highball, Old Fas

Government efficiency also decreased by one place to third position.   According to the WCR, Hong Kong confronts challenges amidst complex external circumstances due to ongoing geopolitical tensions and shifting global trade dynamics. However, there are opportunities arising from Mainland China's focus on high-quality development. ViuTV presents Hong Kong’s first cocktail competition show Master Mixologist

Hong Kong consistently earns top spots on Asia’s and the world’s prestigious lists for its excellent bars. But how much do we really know about our local bartenders and the talents behind Hong Kong’s world of mixology? We’ve seen various reality TV shows about chefs, but until Netflix’s Drink Masters debuted in 2022, bartending competitions were mostly seen only within the industry. Bartenders would compete in national competitions for Diageo’s World Class and Bacardi Legacy before moving on to regional and global stages. Now, Hong Kong TV channel ViuTV aims to educate local audiences and shine a spotlight on the city’s talented bartenders with its newly launched reality show, Master Mixologist. Check out the snippet below: The contestants include 32 bartenders, some with professional backgrounds and some who are simply passionate about the craft and eager to try their hand at mixing behind the stick for your nightly enjoyment. These contenders will compete in a one-hour show to showcase their cocktail-making skills, coupled with their talent for storytelling about the drinks they create. Just like other reality shows, there’s sweat, tears, intrigue, and plenty of drama caught on camera. Fans of award-winning bars like Quinary and Coa will recognise familiar faces such as award-winning mixologists Antonio Lai and Jay Khan, who will serve as judges for the TV show. They are joined by whisky and wine columnist Cecilia Wong, who is also the host of ViuTV’s weekly wine and spi

Farewell, Sevva! Hong Kong’s iconic rooftop bar is closing on April 17

Hosting renowned personalities from David Beckham to Pharrell Williams, Sevva has been an unrivalled pioneer of entertainment in Hong Kong since 2008. However, after sixteen glorious years, this style haven, founded by entrepreneur Bonnae Gokson (proprietor of Ms B’s Cakery and C’est La B cafes), will say its final farewell on April 17. Sevva is the epitome of a city hotspot. Occupying 22,000sq ft of space on the 25th floor of the Landmark Prince, its furnishings effortlessly radiate elegance and timeless style, as if they were pulled directly from the pages of a luxury interior design magazine. One of the reasons for its popularity is its remarkable terrace, which is surrounded by a breathtaking 360-degree panorama of Central and Admiralty’s iconic skyscrapers, the picturesque harbour, and the mesmerising Kowloon skyline. This makes it a favourite among tourists and locals, as it offers an unforgettable vantage point to admire the city. Photograph: Courtesy Sevva The city has sadly witnessed the closure of numerous iconic establishments in recent years. The challenges posed by the pandemic have significantly impacted the city’s economy, including its hospitality industry. Like many other businesses in this sector, the enduring effects of Covid-19 have ultimately taken their toll at Sevva. “Sevva is taking stock of its success after more than a decade and a half and will be open to new creative directions. We are enormously proud to have raised the standard of hospitality

Hong Kong’s Hollywood Road named second coolest street in the world

Age isn’t always a ticket to street cred, but the 180-year-old Hollywood Road just clinched the title for the second coolest street in the world for 2024, after Melbourne’s High Street which got the top spot. Annually, Time Out releases the list based on local polls combined with the expertise of our local editors. In 2022, Sheung Wan’s cool bohemian street, Tai Ping Shan, ranked seventh in the world, chosen for its unique blend of old and new, food, culture, and pandemic-era community spirit. This year, the streets were chosen for their rich history yet ever-evolving character, and all the cool stuff they offer, including a range of experiences for appreciating art, dining and drinking, and retail offerings.  View this post on Instagram A post shared by Time Out Hong Kong (@timeouthk) Photograph: Joshua Lin Hollywood Road stood out because it represents exactly what we think makes a street cool: it has a long history but is still constantly changing and offering something new. This 1km stretch from Central to Sheung Wan is like that wise old friend who’s seen it all but still knows how to rock it. One of its main features is how it’s linked to all the other cool streets in Central, like Wyndham Street, Upper Lascar Row, Old Bailey Street, and more. You’ll also never go hungry nor thirsty in the area, with options ranging from Michelin-starred dining, like the highly coveted Tate Dining Room that serves Chinese cuisine with a French twist, to trendy new bar
