are some of the people newer to tumblr aware of the joys of theme customization on desktop? I know some ppl are just on mobile so they can’t really change things but like SO many blogs nowadays have 0 theme customization and just use the default theme and I’m beginning to wonder if they even know about the option. It’s one of the main reasons why I still use tumblr
this post is not to be mean to people for not knowing btw. i just think its good for people to know bc page customization is one of the things that is slowly disappearing from the internet and i suspect that many ppl don’t even realize its something they can do on here bc they’re so used to their only customization options being like a pfp and maybe a header image. The option to do so here is something I desperately want to preserve since its a fantastic middle ground between the bare bones profile customization of twitter and like. coding an entire webpage from scratch.
like for people who don’t know, this is what my blog looks like if you visit it on desktop, outside of the dashboard popups
desktop users who have no theme this is the life you could be living
ppl in the tags asking how to do this, or who did not even know it was an option, here’s a very quick how to:
1. choose a theme. this is the easy part, search “blog themes” or “html themes” in the tumblr search bar, there are MANY blogs out there dedicated to curating lists of free tumblr themes. Find one you like and save the code in a seperate tab. I would probably check to make sure the theme was not created too long ago, as tumblr website changes over the years have broken some older codes/themes. I would also try to find a theme with lots of customization options, as this makes it easier to make your blog totally unique looking, even if you are unfamiliar with html.
2. either go to your blog’s actual page [YOUR-URL.tumblr.com] and click on the little paint palette icon that shows up in the top right corner, OR you go to your blog’s appearance settings, there should be a button that says “edit themes”
3. once you open the blog theme editor, there should be an option to edit html in the top left corner. Select and delete ALL of the present code. Then, paste in the code of your preferred tumblr theme and hit save. You may have to exit and reenter the customization page for the full effects to take place.
4. From this point on, customize to your heart’s content! Just make sure if you are using a theme made by someone else, that you don’t accidentally remove their credits. This can’t really happen unless you are editing the html directly though, so you likely don’t have to worry.
Keep in mind, messing around with tumblr themes still takes time, even if you’re not doing it all from scratch. Think of it like decorating an empty room. It will take time and effort, and it’s not at all necessary, but it’s worth it to make your space feel more like yours.
I always wanted to customize my page but like…any time i see “html” and it has to deal with customizing a page I cry and run away like a scared puppy. So FOR NOW, I’m going to be boring to avoid the utter anguish and despair I’d feel—
i promise you, if you find a theme with customization built in, the only time you will be touching the html is to copypaste it into the theme editor
tumblr has this great function that allows theme creators - the people doing all the html work for you - to put options like colors, changing the size of images and posts on your blog, the text font, etc, into user-friendly buttons and selection screens. Most html themes nowadays have at least a few of these built in! Mine looks like this
you see? no html knowledge required, very simple to use, and still beautiful and unique!
also, if you are still worried, tumblr has the option to revert everything back to the default state, or even restore previous themes. Your blog won’t be bunked up forever if you mess up some html editing if you DO decide to explore. Go ham!

genre: HEAVY angst word count: ~700 words warnings/content: Mentions of death, funerals, heaaavy angst. All of skz are mentioned to be dead. Android apocalypse!au. Reader dies, Channie cries. No happy ending :( Bang Chan ran to the mangled body, owned by his precious lover, you. He was too late. The androids that have been taking over the world have succeeded. Of course, there were still thousands of people fighting for their lives, but to Chan, you were his world.
A peaceful tune rang around your mind as you withered away in death. You had been fighting against an army of androids on your own. You knew you stood no chance, but you gave it your all. It was the only thing you could do to repay the world of your deeds, because you had created the monsters that roamed your world. When Chan ran over to your body, you didn’t even have the energy to open your eyes anymore. The whirring of the androids, along with the peaceful lullaby in your head was oddly calming.
“You can’t die like this!” The leader shouted. “The irony.” Chan thought to himself. You were the one who helped him get over Hyunjin, Han and Felix’s deaths, but now he was the one who had to deal with your death. And he had to deal with those feelings fast, because another army of your creations were beginning to swarm.
“Open your eyes! Please!” Chan pleaded. He must stay strong. Stay strong for the remaining people of Stray Kids. But how? How was he supposed to stay strong when the person he loved with all his heart, all his might couldn’t stay alive?
Time was running out. The tick-tock of his worn-down watch that was gifted by you reminded him how little time both of you had. “Wake up, damnit! Y/N!” He fell, meek. This state of him made him reminisce about when you saved him from the same androids that were about to kill you both.
The slight rise and fall of your chest had stopped long ago. “They’re gone.” Chan realised. He stood up in seething, silent rage. “All you do is destroy! They’re dead! There’s no point in making me suffer more…” His voice rose and fell, like waves of melancholy in a dull, solem beach.
“You promised we would stay till the end…till the end of this hellhole!” Chan sobbed. He turned to you, then looked back at the androids that were busy with the other members who came to his aid. He watched numbly as Seungmin got stabbed by the sharp blades of the android, Changbin get thrown off of the crumbling cliff they were situated on, and Jeongin running over to him, his precious dimples showing. “Hyung! i’m so happy to see-“ Before his head snapped unnaturally towards the side.
“Just kill me already…please.” Chan watched as Jeongin fell next to Minho’s body. “I have nothing, NOTHING to live for.” But of course they kept him alive. Chan knelt down, back facing the androids and front facing your body. He knew he was being a coward by dying like this but he just wanted the last thing he could see to be you. The androids started whirring again. It was like they sympathised for him.
“Till the end.” Chan whispered, not afraid of the inevitable death coming towards him. “Till the end, Y/N. See you soon, angel.”
The ringing in his ears stopped, all he could hear was the disgusting noise of the blades stabbing into his flesh. Echo. Echo. Echo
Nobody showed up for the auto-generated funeral Chan had planned for himself long ago. All the people he invited were dead. "Today, we are here for [Redacted]'s funeral,"The hologram's voice resonated through the empty wasteland of a chapel. The eulogy for the person who didn't exist anymore, performed by someone who never existed.
As for you? The world didn't go too easy on you after what you did to the world. You were doomed to suffer no matter what, where, when, and who you are. You and Chan never met again, even in the afterlife.
Consider this your punishment, Y/N.

chapter i: falling into space
The night was still young as you exited the dingy club, taking a cigarette between your fingers from a friend to unwind. The slow cycle of breathing in and puffing out smoke allowed you to mull on the night’s events.
Tonight, you met a stranger.
You’ve never been one to pay attention to people around you, but curiously enough, as you sipped on an unfamiliar drink you had mindlessly picked off the menu, your eyes were drawn to a couple shielded by the shadows in the club.
Like every other couple in this club, they were dancing against each other, pressed up into the other’s chest like they were stuck together with 502 glue. The man held his dance partner closely, swaying along to the rhythm with expertise, as alluring as his backside was, his full face was hidden from your view. You observed his figure as discreetly as you could over the rim of your glass, feeling a bit greedy for a full view of him.
Swiftly, the man turned his partner to the right, and you could now see his side profile clearly. You quickly notice that he has a sharp jawline and how his face very much suited his body, both seeming delicate at a glance, but from the way he moved you knew the amount of power and control he had on himself. The music grew all the more intense, and he held the woman tighter, turning in a circle until- his eyes fell on you.
How ever unreal it may sound, you felt like you were hypnotized by those eyes, partly colored by shadow. They had a slight glint to them, resembling ones of a feline as the man took his gaze off of you without care and back on the woman. You felt a surge of annoyance when you realized he wasn’t interested or attracted in you at all, which was incredibly irrational, as you think back to the moment hours later. Perhaps it was the mood in the club, or the disgustingly sweet drink you had in your hand, but you wanted his eyes to be on you always.
You had soon walked out of the club, not wanting to wallow on your strange urges any longer. It was unreasonable to feel that way, and you certainly hated the way your emotions were out of your control.
As you held the cigar, enjoying the night winds, you absent-mindedly scratched the bandaged wound on your cheek. The image of the man dancing to shitty bar music replayed in your mind, and somehow you keep seeing his eyes in front of yours, like a predator seeking prey. You immediately brushed off the idea of going to meet him again, not wanting to get anymore involved with anyone who goes to that goddamned club. You’ve seen too many freaky things happening there.
The phoenix tree planted on the stone path slowly sheds its dead leaves, and you stare at the littered road for a moment before moving the head of the cigar in-between your thumb and your index, taking the flame out. The stranger you met in the club still at the back of your mind, you sigh heavily, and decide to head back home.
(this is supposed to be a story in about ten parts because i’m down atrocious for more!hoseok :/ don’t make any assumptions about the characters or the plotline until you know everything because nothing in this story is the way it seems right now)
