popping on here to say i am an alpha charles and omega max girly, but i will read any fanfic about them <3
Why are people saying things like 'Max only won because he was on pole and had clean air' as if it takes anything away from the victory. He didn't just spawn into the pole position, he earned it and gave himself the best possible chance of victory on the Sunday. It's why getting pole position was so brilliant.
It's really the same argument people made about Charles' victory in Monaco last year. Yes there were no overtakes blah blah blah but if you put the car on pole in Monaco you give yourself that advantage and therefore the victory is just as deserved as other victories.
Qualifying performances might not give you points but they are still a really important part of the weekend. It's why being on it all weekend can be vital.
Also, whilst I do think it would be better if cars could race more easily on tracks I am completely capable of being a hypocrite because when it's my fave at the front I don't mind a 'boring' race. A race can be technically boring but still emotionally exhausting to me!
one thing i will say about these ground effect regulations is that they DID NOT deliver the close racing we were promised. the only year where they payed off were in 2022. of course the charles and max battles were gorgeous but even other races showed close battling, easy to follow cars and crazy overtakes throughout the field. while red bull were obviously dominant in 2023, even throughout the rest of the field and in 2024, these cars are just so wide and large that they discourage any kind of racing. hopefully the 2026 regulations offer more room for racing and on-track action that goes beyond incidents and tyre strategies.
a lot of people forget that we might have a complete change in order with the change in round 9 (spain) with the flexi-wing rule changes. a lot of the team principles mention how this might be a big change and with the championship being quite close, the entire landscape of the championship might change sooner than we think.
also saw this graphic comparing the championship last year after to three races to this year. Lando was 30 pts behind Max (in 1st) and was 6th. You know who is 40 points behind 1st and in 6th this year? Charles. And obviously Max is 1 point behind in 2nd It can change quickly.
this reminds me a bit of 2022. max was 6th after the first three races and had a 60 point ish deficit because the red bull car was quite overweight and had awful reliability. they turned it around pretty well in my opinion :)

while max deserves all the praise he’s getting for putting a clearly inferior car on pole, i wish charles would get the same praise from the media and larger f1 community as well. he was working miracles with cars like the sf21 and sf23 and all we would hear sky sports say is ‘well he’ll go backwards in the race tomorrow anyways’
