there's an east asian superstition that you sneeze when someone is talking about you.
...and nanako started sneezing after kozai's statement about her was read on the news.
hah hah.
these are some old photos from contribe's persona stalker club booth at wonder fest 2014 showing the izanagi and magatsuizanagi prop rings they made for the show. wonder fest is for both amateur and professional sculptors to show off their work for display, and some manufacturers also show off their upcoming products. afaik, the izanagi ring was sold as a persona stalker club branded ring?, but idk if the magatsuizanagi ring was or else i totally would've bought it by now.
this is from a dm convo w/a redditor who saw a comment i made about this before and asked about it. idk if this rambling actually clarifies anything but hey yeah here you go.
to recap: in english, when naoto reads namatame's diary on november 5th, it says like, "i managed to take her to safety", referring to nanako. when you corner adachi at the hospital on dec 5th, he gets frustrated and eventually says they all know namatame put them in.
so, it looks like adachi is doing some form of epic self-own self-report by saying something he shouldn't have said. a lot of people seem to accept that's why he gets caught. there's even a really popular fan comic where he says this then admits after about how cringe he must've sounded!
but if you read internet convos about naoto's deductions and how adachi gets caught, you will probably see others talk about the scene where naoto goes on to actually logic out why adachi is suspicious. during this scene, him saying "put them in" has no relevance to anything she says whatsoever. it was actually him saying "that settles it" that screws him over.
in my opinion, this is kind of a translation thing: in japanese, when naoto reads namatame's diary on november 5th, it actually does say, "i was able to put her in". so when you corner adachi on december 5th, and he explodes and says, "we know namatame put them all in!", he is using the same wording as namatame's diary.
since namatame's diary actually did say that, then this no longer an epic self-own shocking revelation self-report where adachi accidentally says something he wasn't supposed to say. (well, it is still a self-report, just not in the same way.)
for me, knowing this clears up a couple things.
on november 5th, naoto reading "i was able to put her in" from namatame's diary and adachi saying "that settles it" happens within like 5 lines of each other. it's no wonder why hearing that helps naoto suddenly realize that him saying "that settles it" was so weird. it's like he's unintentionally jolting her memory back to when she read the diary.
additionally, adachi can thus be seen as quoting and/or believing what namatame wrote. but remember, adachi is roleplaying as a normal innocent cop. so what reason would he have to believe namatame? as far as the investigation team is concerned, they've never shown adachi how the tv works. and on the actual police investigation side, naoto was working on the case, and knows that the police weren't treating yukiko/kanji/rise/naoto as "potential victims" who were linked to the first 2 murders. yet for some reason, adachi is all too eager to declare "that settles it!" after hearing everyone's information read from namatame's diary.
for the rest from adachi's side, i touched on this in the long ass post about interpreting namatame as a motivator for adachi's actions behind the scenes.
for the rest from naoto's side, i feel like what she says on december 5th is fairly self-explanatory if you realize she's coming at it from the angle of "adachi, why the fuck did you interpret namatame's diary that way as far back as november 5th?" for example: it's established early on in april that namatame had an alibi for mayumi's death, but he has no reaction to the idea that namatame still somehow killed mayumi?
the only thing that i think might stand out as weird is how naoto reasons that "why would you auto-connect the missing people w/the murders when people go missing every day". this is very easy to miss, but if you talk to the NPCs, 2 of the 4 missing people (rise and kanji) had their family members going, "well it's normal for them to wander off!" during the dungeon investigations. it is apparently normal for these characters to just do this lol. there is also a cultural thing where troubled people in japan just get up and leave too. (i think this could be supported better by making it seem like other people in inaba go missing regularly during the plot, especially with the "dying countryside" setting.)
as an aside, i think part of why people have trouble understanding naoto's deduction is that the player factually knows that there's a connection between the murders and the kidnappings even if they don't understand namatame's actions yet, but they don't stop to think about the case from the perspective of different in-universe characters who don't have all the info that the player does. like, even dojima trying to link together the murders with the kidnappings is treated as his own personal hunch and not an actual part of the investigation. (and then morooka dies and kubo is caught, so why would he continue on that train of thought?) i would also say the reason why many people accept adachi's "put them in" line as an epic own self-report, and don't get as far as considering how it seems irrelevant to what naoto says after, is because many are spoiled going into this and are just like waiting for the moment when he slips lol.
Found some artwork and gifs from the P4 pachinko stuff while dumpster diving through their news section.
Character artwork collage thing & profile wallpapers:

Animated avatars:
From my understanding, they have events where machines get bonuses and you can get avatars or other things related to the machine. So like, during a Persona 4 pachinko event, you can earn points and get an avatar and profile wallpaper. The avatars with the sparkles and other effects would activate during BB Tme (Big Bonus Time). It... seems...? that different avatars gives you different effects, so there are incentives to obtain them. There are also like "SSR"/"SSK" /higher rarity avatars.
often, someone will ask, "how did the bodies get up on the poles/antennas/etc?", and there will inevitably be someone who replies, "adachi hung them up". i think this angle gets nulled by how adachi expresses surprise to mayumi's whole body going into the tv. if he's surprised he can do that, why he would know he could go retrieve her body from somewhere or find her body and hang it up?
but imo the stronger argument is to look at adachi's little bitch ass twig arms and ask yourself if you seriously think he can lift up a corpse and hang it from something. i would find it more believable if you told me that mayumi and saki hung him up and took turns taking swings at him like a pinata.
i dont think atlus has mentioned why / how their bodies end up on poles and whatnot in either of the lore books. think you only have to go off how teddie says they disappear from the tv world when the fog leaves.
imma be real w/you all -- i kinda skimmed the detective naoto novel translation years ago and was not super duper interested in it lol. i recently read a couple interviews w/the author, natsuki mamiya, in persona magazine. it was interesting to read stuff like his thought process behind giving naoto a new persona, but then he (and also shuji sogabe) just killed the vibe by talking about naoto and rise's photo shoot.
btw, i have flipped through some jp reviews of pdn on the jp equivalent of good reads, and many fans seemed to have liked it, but they complained about there being a lot of typos; i assume the wrong kanji were used multiple times. dunno if the fan translator has ever talked about that.
one more thing from psc 6. at the beginning of the episode, madono dressed up as adachi and held up an adachi face portrait as a "mask" lol and did a skit where he arrests kajita for trying to form social links. (they also play the golden theater opening from catherine before this.)
quick ass tl -
adachi: isn't it about time you came clean and confessed to what you've done? kajita: but you've got the wrong idea... adachi: do i tho? eyewitnesses spotted you lurking around a daycare and talking to girls at a shrine! kajita: but i was just trying to establish social links. adachi: oh please. social link? the hell is that? can't you be more specific? kajita: uhh, well, you see, if you establish social links, your personas get stronger. so i thought, maybe if i went to a daycare and a shrine, i could get temperance and hanged man personas... (see: p4 eri temperance and p3 maiko hanged man) adachi: ah-hah, i see what's going on here... so your hidden desires got the better of you, huh? kajita: oh shit it's like *i'm* the hanged man. both: ah ha ha adachi: you think you're real funny, dont you? kajita: sorry... if i were a persona protagonist, then i totally could've pulled that off... guess my social stats aren't high enough... adachi: look, games are different from reality. like what is that get up? what are you even wearing? and you're how old - 26? kajita: er, no, this is my costume for the persona stalker club... adachi: ah-ha, you just confessed, didn't you? kajita: huh? adachi: you just admitted that you're a "stalker", didn't you? kajita: no, you've got it all wrong! it's not like that! you see, the persona stalker club is... adachi: uh-huh. the suspect confessed at... 17:03. kajita: no! adachi: all right, you're coming with me. kajita: wait, persona... persona stalker club...! adachi: uh-huh. kajita: no! i didn't do it! i didn't!!!
the title card at the start says like, "mafia kajita mystery theater, there's a staff member who loves pan and has a secret, the cabbage detective is on the case!, the fresh blood chocopan contains randa's(?) tears." i have nfc what the title is supposed to be about. "pan" would typically be "bread", but for some reason i have a feeling that its usage in the first line is not actually talking about bread lol. i asked a person who has listened to a lot of mafia kajita's radio shows and they had no idea either.
in the process of typing this, i realized i have nooooo idea how to convey adachi's style of speech through text. all of the "ใญใใใ๏ผ" and "ใใใชใ๏ผ" and the euhmm speed at which he talks versus when he draws out syllables while being all whiny (not rly seen in this clip). yeah okay madono's va work does so much heavy lifting for now "annoyingly charming" adachi can be.
aaaa i forgot about the ADACHI CAKE
this is from episode 6 (the same episode where madono tried the cursed meat gum for everyone's sake). the episode aired on july 25th, shortly before madono's 50th birthday (july 28th), so they gave him a birthday cake with (blushing!) adachi on it lol. the chocolate sign says "happy birthday, mitsuaki madono!" and the bottom left is the two hosts' avatars saying "congrats!"
if you're capable of importing products with alcohol (they arent supposed to be shipped via air cause of the alcohol), the p4/p5 fragrances are being re-run on primaniacs website. they announced p3 was coming "soon" too.
i own adachi, yukiko, yu, aigis, and kotone's... adachi smells fruity (because he's a fruit), yukiko smells like fuckin' soap, yu smells like The Most Generic Man ever, aigis's notes are fruity but she smells uhh fresh? (idk how else to describe this), and kotone is another fruit. (imo, kotone's smells the best of these 5.)
notably, there are reviews on primaniac's webpage, and one of adachi's reviews is an essay about how the scent progression from top to lasting mimics his character development in persona 4: he starts out as this kinda friendly guy due to the berry / citrus smell (top notes), then the smell changes to something more subdued due to the jasmine (middle notes), and the lasting notes are heavy yet fade quickly, like adachi is lost in the fog and leaves only an insignificant scent behind. yet the lasting scents also have warmth to them, symbolizing his memories of his time with the dojima family. and after the scent dissipates, it's like him accepting that he fucked up and starting over.
o yea, teddie has yet another nickname besides kumakichi.
kanji also calls teddie "ใฏใๅ ฌ", pronounced "kumako".
this is the same "ko" as in hachiko the loyal dog. (well, the dog's name was actually "hachi".) the name we know it by, "hachiko", was an affectionate nickname made up of hachi's name + "ko" tacked on at the end.
when added on to the end of a name like that, "ko" can be affectionate orrrr it be a bit belittling. like, "kumako (complimentary)" versus "kumako (derogatory)". given that teddie is a bit of a nuisance sometimes, i think kanji means it in both ways lol.
btw, when you visit the movie theater in golden, the movie kanji really wants to see is the one that plays in october -- dachiko, a parody of hachiko.
for the release of p4u / p4arena, soejima drew various artwork of teddie w/things that reference different areas in japan. for shibuya, he drew teddie as the hachiko statue near shibuya station, and the nameplate uses the same name kanji calls him, kumako.
in the ps2 game, when he had no social link, adachi used to appear at junes through the summer months (june/july/aug/sept) for a few days, and he had dialogue whenever you spoke to him. the july version of this dialogue is where the cabbage shopping dialogue comes from, and that can still be seen in golden (as long as you max his social link first).
but i remember he had other dialogue for the other 3 months, like one where he talks about buying a children's magic set? (giving him an association w/doing magic tricks and stuff before his golden social link), and im wondering if that got removed from golden, or if you have to max his social link before it shows up, or maybe moved to another date...?
i knew i wasn't imagining this. the something awful let's play has his june dialogue screenshotted / transcribed:
but does this play anywhere in golden? hrmm...
omg, persona club p4 lists out all of the dates that adachi can be found at junes. he is at junes in the ps2 game during june 5-14, july 12-18, august 24-30, and september 2-7. the june dialogue is the one previously posted about him buying a magic set.
the july dialogue is the one where he's cabbage shopping, which can be seen in this older post. it exists in golden, and i put the golden version in the reblogs. it only shows up if you finish his social link first, then talk to him sometime in july. (it might be the same dates as the ps2 game - 12-18th.)
the august dialogue isn't in the something awful let's play, but persona club p4 lists out what he says/does when you encounter him, and by process of elimination, he was probably talking about bumming junes' free air conditioning during august lol.
the september dialogue also happens to be in the something awful let's play, where it's raining and he takes shelter at junes:
aside from the cabbage shopping dialogue, im not sure if the others can be seen in golden. like the magic set one might have been removed and instead implemented into him talking about becoming a magician in his slink...?

random junes shower thoughts:
waaait. nakase also voices sayoko, the nurse from the devil social link, and yosuke is into... nurses...
i guess children in p4 like to repeat after chie lol
this stage play series is titled the "act" series (or so atlus calls it on their page), and the first play in the series, "lunation", will be at g-rosso this summer. unlike the weird masquerade, it's not a musical, and it has a new cast. the protag has also been named kanata shiomi.
i'll be living in japan starting near the end of this year. maybe i can catch one of the other parts in theater. (btw, this theater is near the "pancake" that mona asks about in p5 lol.)
