―about

My name’s Amber! I’m 23 years old, a lesbian, and a big fan of fiction, whether it be books, videos games, or shows! I’ve been writing since roughly 2011, though it was only around 2016 that I started writing seriously. I post a lot about my ocs, who can be found here! I lean towards the fantasy genre in my own writing, though I occasionally branch out to other genres. Most, if not all, of my writing focuses on lgbt+ characters. My writing can be found here.

―wips

The Iridessia Chronicles

Heroic fantasy, friendship, lgbt+, romance, adventure, found family. Inspired by The Dragon Prince, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and Dragon Age.
When a well-known hero goes missing, Safi Ryee and Kadan Fray eagerly go looking for her, certain they’ll claim a big reward. Only things aren’t that simple…
The hero is dead. When her spirit attaches itself to Safi, they find themselves forced to pick up her mantle. One thing is for sure; they’re no heroes. But whatever killed the hero is still around, whether they’re ready or not.

Technicolour

Sci-fi, found family, lgbt+, romance.
Jazmine Thorne lost both her brothers to space. When she finds two aliens stranded on Earth, it gives her the opportunity to track them down. Unfortunately, she’s stuck with a crew of people she doesn’t even know, and she’s not exactly a people person at the best of times.

Embrace of the Dawn

Romance, lgbt+, modern fantasy.
Rowan is the daughter of a vampire-hunting guild’s leader. Annette is a vampire in a coven plotting the downfall of humanity. When Rowan is attacked by vampires, Annette saves her, intending to benefit herself. But the two have more in common than they realise, and they’ll learn more about each other’s worlds than either of them would've ever thought.

―other

Besides my own characters, I have several ocs from some of my favourite video games, such as Dragon Age, Fallout, Mass Effect, and Skyrim. Occasionally I write and post about them too! A selection of my fics can be found here.

β€œBut I’ve already written this a hundred times” <- write it a hundred more times, this is not your job, do what you want

β€œBut who is this for” <- do it for yourself so that your soul doesn’t die

β€œBut what if I don’t get any likes or comments” <- this voice is the death of all creative joy, ignore it as much as possible

it sounds ridiculously obvious now, but one of the best pieces of writing advice i've ever received is that most of the time, a character's flaws are also their strengths. a smart person might have trouble admitting they're wrong, or break down when they don't know how to solve something; a practical, capable person might lack emotional intelligence. a determined person might be so focused on their goals that they neglect their friends and ignore anything "superfluous" (i.e. they don't notice minor details that turn out to be important later on). kindness can become naivety; open-mindedness can become centrism; confidence can become arrogance. sometimes it's tempting to just reach into a grab bag of positive and negative traits and sprinkle them in at random, but it's much better to instead isolate the things you like about your character and take those traits to the logical extreme.

like idk as a writer i resent the idea that it's always my fault or responsibility when people misunderstand my writing. some people are just stupid and im not obligated to dumb down my art to fit their myopic point of view

I stand by this 100% because sometimes yours is the first piece of literature that ever required someone to think and it shows.

However, in defense of some readers many of the dumb comments I get are resolved by the reader simply reading the passage a second time and realizing they initially read it wrong. Brains are funny like that.

me as writer: "they sighed, sighingly, loosing a heavy sigh as the sigh escaped them in a tired sigh, all the while sighing in expaseration."

Exits my Google Doc covered in blood not to imply I have been killing off or otherwise torturing my characters, but to convey that my WIP is currently lying on the operating table with its organs in the process of rearrangement

not as bad as writer's block, but still pretty bad: when you have an idea you're excited to get out of your head but you can only write it really really really slowly

writer's traffic jam
