Embroidery in progress! It's been taking me forever to finish this bat boy because I'm just making a few stitches in between client projects, but I'm very excited to do more (when time allows!)...I've got...plans.....👿
I made this poster for J Roddy Walston & The Business' 3-show series at the Ottobar starting on the 24th. Really fun direction and nice to have a hand in celebrating Ottobar's 20th anniversary! Tickets on the event page here.
I did this piece for an article in the New York Times about how a survivor of domestic abuse is drawn to listening to true crime podcasts. You can read the article online here.
Hey everybody! I'm starting some special commissions as a way to raise funds for printing my next comic, "Tales from Aeaea #2"!
If you love cooking and maybe also have an appreciation for the strange or fantastic, I'll create a full-body portrait of you in the style of my "Cauldrons & Casseroles" zine. You could become a witch crafting cupcakes, a goblin making goulash, or a necromancer raising the bread! (I'm so sorry...wait–no wait, don't go!)
Here are the details:
For $75, you'll get an original ink drawing of yourself transformed into a fantastic character making your favorite dish, with a full background at 8.5" X 11" on archival bristol paper shipped to your door.
For an extra $25, I'll color your ink drawing like the examples above and mail you a print on high-quality 8.5" X 11" matte paper along with your original ink drawing.
Curious about what your portrait might look like? Take a look at these images from my "Cauldrons" zine!
If you'd like an original piece by me, personalized and completely unique, send me an email! I'll need a photo of you, your dish of choice, and any other preferences you might have. Payment required upfront. Domestic US shipping costs are included. I’ll provide a quote for international shipping. Pieces will be produced and mailed in order of requests made.
You can also visit my store here to pick up a copy of “Cauldrons & Casseroles” and the first “Tales from Aeaea.”
Thanks so much for taking a look and please share!
I got to design another t-shirt for Pizza Party Printing, this time for one of my favorite moves ever: the excellent, ass-kicking valley girls vs. zombies, plus some space shit, PLUS Mary Woronov, Night of the Comet. Daddy mighta gotten you an Uzi, but you can get yourself this shirt on preorder here!
For the past couple of months, I’ve been madly preparing for May Day in Baltimore with an event in celebration of Robin Hardy’s The Wickerman. My friend Melissa LaMartina and I organized the event complete with bands playing songs from the soundtrack, burlesque performances, an actual maypole with an actual maypole dance (thank you Chuck and Chelsea!), a humongous wickerman photobooth (seen above, featuring me in my Summerisle lady garb and our very own Lord Summerisle himself), and an art show featuring gorgeous work from artists Monica Amneus, Alan Brown, Michael Bukowski, Zé Burnay, Shirley Chan, Jeanne D'Angelo, Alex Fine, Mandi Johnson, Justine Jones, Cailin Marie, Janna Morton, Becca Stadtlander, Maureen Sullivan, and Jabari Weathers. Jimmy Giegerich also designed a shirt from Pizza Party Printing specially for the event (and you can get that shirt here). I designed and illustrated the poster, a 2-color limited-edition screen print, which you can get here for $15.
Everything about Sunday was a blast and I couldn’t be more proud of how it turned out or more thrilled by all the hard work and response by everybody involved.
And now, come. It’s time to keep your appointment with the wickerman.
We’re snowed-in here in Baltimore, and it’s making me miss warmer weather, green things, flora...
So here is a beer label I designed and illustrated for Union Craft Brewing’s special spring-time saison that they crafted exclusively for Atomic Books in Hampden. A wonderful pairing of comics “for mutated minds” and a light, fruity ale.
I've always wanted to illustrate beer and wine labels and this was a really fun way to dip my toe in. I hope I get the chance to do more!
If you play today’s ultra-sweet Google Doodle Global Candy Cup, you can see my illustrations when you beat the game with the witch of your choice! I created the share images that you can post on Facebook or Twitter. You can also read about the personalities and quirks of each character here!
It was a lot of fun to work with their adorable character designs and to have a chance to flex my hand-lettering muscles. The game was designed by Sophie Diao, who also created all the assets, and animated by Nate Swinehart. Engineering by Ariel Lee, Maura Fitzgerald, Kris Hom, and Corrie Scalisi. Music and sound effects by Aivi & Surasshu. Thanks to my ADs Sophie Diao and Liat Ben-Rafael for including me in this super fun project!
Go play it! It’s pretty dang charming.
Cotton candy magic wand pins are up on the store today (and in very limited quantities)! You can also pick up "Cauldrons & Casseroles" and my 2015 LOOT bags while you're there!
SPX this past weekend was amazing. It always roars up like a storm and then flies by too fast! I had such a great time seeing everyone and the response to “Cauldrons & Casseroles” was more enthusiastic than I'd hoped for, so thanks to everyone that bought a copy! If you're wondering about how to buy a copy for yourself, they, along with giclée prints, LOOT tote bags, the MINISCULE (as in 3) amount of enamel pins remaining will be up on my store, andreakalfas.bigcartel.com on Monday, next week.
I'm also going to be at Baltimore Comic Con with Pizza Party Printing and Jimmy Giegerich (who’ll be selling his unbelievably good “Fight Frogs 2″) this weekend so you can grab a copy there too! ♡♡♡
