weird vibes aren't exactly rare at an antique mall but this one stall w/haunted energy had a sign with phrasing that has been stuck in my head for days lol

GIRLY STUFF FOR THE DAMSEL

BITS OF GLAMOUR FOR MADEMOISELLE

i like working at plant store. sometimes you ring up someone and there's a slug on their plant and so you're like "Oh haha you've got a friend there let me get that for you" and you put the slug on your hand for safekeeping but then its really busy and you dont have time to take the slug outside before the next customer in line so you just have a slug chilling on your hand for 15 minutes. really makes you feel at peace with nature. also it means sometimes i get to say my favorite line which is "would you like this free slug with your purchase"

@holyknuckled you get it. lterally what are we here on earth for if not to occasionally impose gastropods upon unsuspecting customers. this story is delightful

oh? my god???

yeah, Exactly like that

I neeeedddd people to understand that health and safety rules and regulations are there for a reason. they weren't written for fun, theyre actually pretty expensive to implement. they're not there to make your job harder or more difficult or because people are "sensitive snowflakes". they were written in blood. theyre there because victims and families campaigned relentlessly to ensure something terrible doesn't happen to someone ever again. natasha's law, for example, made it so ready to eat food that is prepared in store has to be labelled with allergens clearly stated. because natasha was a 15 year old girl who picked up a sandwich that had been made in store, not knowing it had an allergen in it that she was deadly allergic to. and she died. less than a decade ago. and her parents campaigned for allergens to be clearly labelled on all foods. the health and safety regulations we follow every day were written in blood.

“We didn’t used to have so many stupid rules! Why can’t things be simple? Why do we have so many rules?”

People died, Carol.

Safety regulations are written in blood.

hi, a lot of you need a perspective reset

  • the average human lifespan globally is 70+ years
  • taking the threshold of adulthood as 18, you are likely to spend at least 52 years as a fully grown adult
  • at the age of 30 you have lived less than one quarter of your adult life (12/52 years)
  • 'middle age' is typically considered to be between 45-65
  • it is extremely common to switch careers, start new relationships, emigrate, go to college for the first or second time, or make other life-changing decisions in middle age
  • it's wild that I even have to spell it out, but older adults (60+) still have social lives and hobbies and interests.
  • you can still date when you get old. you can still fuck. you can still learn new skills, be fashionable, be competitive. you can still gossip, you can still travel, you can still read. you can still transition. you can still come out.
  • young doesn't mean peaked. you're inexperienced in your 20s! you're still learning and practicing! you're developing social skills and muscle memory that will last decades!
  • there are a million things to do in the world, and they don't vanish overnight because an imaginary number gets too big

thank you to all of the music artists that live in my phone and sing songs whenever i want them to

Some of you are WAY too quick to connect "covid causes brain damage" with "that's why people have bad politics/Trump got re-elected/the general world is going to shit" as if that's not incredibly fucking ableist.

Brain damage doesn't make you bigoted. Once again we are having to reiterate that there's no such thing as "abuser disorder". Anyone with any condition is capable of being a good person.

Cognitive impairment from covid is my worst symptom. It's hell. It doesn't even really bother me that I have to use a powerchair or that I can't do many physical activities. It bothers me that I can't fucking think. I need to be having a really good day in order to be able to work for my classes, even simple stuff like reading. When I'm having a really bad day I struggle to form sentences because I can't retrieve words quickly. Sometimes I just stop talking because it's too frustrating. And my cognitive impairment is pretty mild, to the point where I don't use the term brain damage for myself since I don't feel it fits. There are people who suffered real brain damage, like the kind that results from brain inflammation (encephalitis), from covid who are struggling a lot more than me and don't deserve blame for the state of the world.

Don't use brain damage as an insult or to describe people you don't like. Don't use brain damage as an "explanation" for bigoted behavior. Stop using disability terms to talk about evil people.
