I’m not changing any designs again, and I’m really attached to their parents so I’ve no interest in changing them, but man. You can tell that Asha and Valerie were designed before I got the hang of drawing Pokemon mixes.
These days, I try to base mix designs off of theming or what would look good together, but back then, they were my first time actually designing my own ocs myself if that makes sense? So they were just the standard gligar and popplio with some accessories, and their parentage wasn’t important, so I just mashed some of my faves (heracross for asha, samurott for valerie) together. And then when I decided I wanted to do mixes… well. Heracross doesn’t really lend itself well to those (designing Atlas and Maya’s traits were a huge pain in the ass and I’m still kinda eh about Sakura not visibly being a heracross mix) and oshawott and popplio are deceptively hard to fuse, at least with popplio as the base. The scalchop is an obvious option, but I don’t know where it’d go on Val, and I could make her nose brown… but then she doesn’t match with Marlow :(
I think if I was designing them today, I’d choose totally different parents for them. Gliscor/scizor for Asha and primarina/zoroark or emboar for Valerie. But right now, my excuse is just that they’re slight mixes, which means that they just didn’t inherit much from their other parent’s species as much as other pokemon in their clutches would have.
