ᔓ CHAPTER III: HIDDEN NETWORK

this can’t be happening. what the fuck is childe doing in your apartment?

“stop glaring at me.” the orange-haired guy said with his usual smirk. “i was just worried. you know about the disappearance that’s happening in the town, right? thoma actually asked me to look after you.”

“i’m not a goddamn kid.” you hissed, putting your hand on your waist and glare at him. you turn your gaze to your classmate before leaning in to whisper. “what are you doing here?”

childe already knew what you meant so he dropped his smile and his face turned serious. he slipped something on your pocket and you furrowed your eyebrows.

“don’t open it until that guy left.”

“kazuha?” he nodded. the two of you stare at each other. fortunately, childe was the first to look away and he flashes his usual grin and steps back. “alright, i’m kinda relieved that you have someone to stay with tonight.”

his voice was so loud that the person in the living room turned his head to look at the two of you in the kitchen. he didn’t say anything but it is clear that he’s confused.

“kazuha, right?” ignoring you, childe made his way towards him and put his arm around kazuha’s shoulder, “can i ask you a favor?”

“what—”

“don’t listen to him.” you cut him off as you walk towards them. you shot a meaningful look at childe and he immediately backed away.

“alrighty. i will shut up now.” he said, “anyway, take care of her for me. i can trust you with that, right?”

“i am not a kid!”

“alright.”

“don't just say 'alright!'"

childe just tousled your hair and you smacked his hand away, glaring at him. after a few minutes of teasing—for the love of god—he finally left.

you made sure that you triple locked your door because that stupid leader of yours has a habit of barging in unannounced like he owns the place.

kazuha, noticing your silence, stood beside you. he looked at your hand that’s gripping the lock. your knuckles are turning white because of how tight you’re gripping it.

“um, he’s gone, right?” you flinched when you heard his voice right next to your ear. you took a step backward and removed your hand from the lock.

“right…” you took a deep breath to calm yourself, “sorry about him.”

there was something wrong with kinich. mavuika’s eyes scanned over the wounds on the poor boy’s body and the blood dripping from his forehead. long gone was his usual bandana and golden rimmed eyes were now tainted with a strange red. 

this man is not kinich.

“so kinich has fallen, too,” her voice sullen, eyes barely able to look at the husk of one of her heroes. though her stance is not tense, it certainly wasn’t relaxed either. “kinich” followed her movements carefully—the way her hands twitched towards her claymore, her eyes he could not read, and the unmistakable tone of her voice. the pyro archon was disappointed.

“i, too, would be disappointed if you didn’t notice, archon.” kinich dipped his head low and let out a bone chilling laugh that scratched his throat the wrong way. blood stained glove came to push his hair back as mavuika stares at the eyes that did not belong to the dendro user of the scions of canopy. 

“it was a shame for that brat to die, but oh well,” a twisted grin tugged at his lips as mavuika’s face remained passive. “it is i! the almighty dragon lord, k’uhul ajaw!”

I love that in some moments Peri behaves like his mom and in others like his dad.
