Uhhh hi I'm posting on here again. Have a doodle dump of my new fave demon boy. This is Paimon. (The other demon who makes an appearance in this is mephistopheles, owned by @lordofthefroggs teehee)
Since I'm back to posting now I kinda wanna remodel this whole blog.. these characters and this story have changed so much that looking at all this old art feels weird now lmao. Idk. Just a thought.
I do have a bunch of new art for at least one of the characters now, so do expect more of that at some point!
Hi, Tumblr. Itโs Tumblr. Weโre working on some things that we want to share with you.ย
AI companies are acquiring content across the internet for a variety of purposes in all sorts of ways. There are currently very few regulations giving individuals control over how their content is used by AI platforms. Proposed regulations around the world, like the European Unionโs AI Act, would give individuals more control over whether and how their content is utilized by this emerging technology. We support this right regardless of geographic location, so weโre releasing a toggle to opt out of sharing content from your public blogs with third parties, including AI platforms that use this content for model training. Weโre also working with partners to ensure you have as much control as possible regarding what content is used.
Here are the important details:
- We already discourage AI crawlers from gathering content from Tumblr and will continue to do so, save for those with which we partner.ย
- We want to represent all of you on Tumblr and ensure that protections are in place for how your content is used. We are committed to making sure our partners respect those decisions.
- To opt out of sharing your public blogsโ content with third parties, visit each of your public blogsโ blog settings via the web interface and toggle on the โPrevent third-party sharingโ option.ย
- For instructions on how to opt out using the latest version of the app, please visit this Help Center doc.ย
- Please note: If youโve already chosen to discourage search crawling of your blog in your settings, weโve automatically enabled the โPrevent third-party sharingโ option.
If you have concerns, please read through the Help Center doc linked above and contact us via Support if you still have questions.
unfortunately, a lot of the userbase won't opt out. those who don't see this post, those who have posted to tumblr but don't anymore, users on older versions of the app who forget to opt out next time they're on desktop, etc. the point of making it opt-out is to take advantage of people who wouldn't have opted in but don't/can't opt out in time. automatically opting out people who have discouraged search crawling is a gesture that helps Tumblr look more kind, but from the fact that everyone else has to manually opt out, Tumblr is definitely not looking benevolent.
I wonder, will Tumblr/Automattic be selling images from deactivated blogs? I assume deactivated blogs can't opt out. (if this is the case, it'll also give Tumblr even more reason to deactivate accounts unfairly.)
when will they start selling this data? Is it already too late to keep them from selling every image you've posted before you opted out?
and if they're especially malicious, I wonder if they could get away with saying "this image is from a blog that's opted out, but it was reblogged by a blog that hasn't opted out, so we're selling the image that's on that non-opted-out blog."
making users need to opt out to keep their images from being taken and sold is a shitty move that makes it clear Tumblr/Automattic don't respect our privacy, and @staff are really not giving us much info here to suggest otherwise.
The big thing is, as soon as it went live, it ALL got scraped.
All of it.
By the time any of us knew, it was already too late - THAT'S the big thing that's pissing me off with choosing "Opt OUT" instead of "Opt IN" models.
It's the same as someone stealing the painting you hung up on your living room wall, and defending it by saying "Well, you didn't TELL me I couldn't."
And when they're told they can't do that (opt out), they say "Ok, I guess I won't do it again."
You don't get your painting back, or the money they got when they sold it to be made into a shitty collage.
All you do is lose.
AND
The opt out ISN'T REALLY AN OPT OUT.
It's come out that all that little switch does is tell the tech maggots we don't want them to harvest it.
IT'S STILL UP TO THEIR DISCRETION, WHETHER TO LISTEN OR NOT.
So the jackass will come back into your living room and take the rest of your work anyway!
It's blatant theft, disregard for their users in general and especially for people like me, who are creatives making and sharing our work and Just Trying To Make A Bare Living with our craft and really, REALLY stupid business practice.
The logic - if there is any - completely evades me, and I'm just angry all the time now.
Fuck "AI"
Fuck tech maggots
Just Fuck.
Imma go paint now ๐ค๐
Did a challenge w my friends in a group chat of mine where we drew our sonas in color pallets generated from our names. These are mine and honestly I love them all :)))
Its spooky season!!
Here's a drawing of Azzy and Mammon in their Halloween costumes!! (mammon was forced to wear one, he did not get a choice)
(Mammon owned by @lordofthefroggs)
