I think peter being the leader of one of the big things they did as a group is important for him. He is always shown as being the follower, james and sirius come up with the pranks, he just executes, and i think it frustrated him that he never came up with the good ideas in time, and he just wanted to be credited for one achievement, so he would get super enthusiastic when he did come up with something and make everyone follow him immediately LOL. Like, maybe he came up with the idea for animagus? or the idea for the map? or something that he classes as his biggest achievement, because all he ever wanted was to feel validation from his friends which he felt so far behind
