With twitter being down in brazil, a lot of brazilian artists like me are struggling to get jobs and commissions. It was a big platform to find clients, so until bluesky truly takes off or twitter comes back in brazil it would mean a lot to me if you could share this post.
could we get a bit of lore for coil and scarf? like why coil is the reason for scarf's arm perhaps? 👁️👁️
or just some backstory
They're from a clandestine lab researching psychic powers, but theyre still a really super primitive version of the psychic powers from the future (even though coil is considered a prodigy there, he's a failure if you compare him to silver, since he can only control metal objects).
Coil and Sheave (scarf) were test subjects in the facility, but sheave was considered a failure due to his lack of ability in conducting psychic energy, he was kept mostly for testing the effects of things on psychic individuals while coil was tested for his abilities. Even though they got along, the difference in how they were treated was very apparent, and one day sheave decided to break out of the lab without telling anything to coil, so when the sirens sounded and coil was told to assist in stopping the deserter he had no idea it was sheave, and the arm cutting was accidental.
Sheave managed to escape regardless, adopted a new name (scarf), and discovered he could channel his psychic powers better through his severed arm, sort of like an extension of his body. Scarf has a high bounty on his head since the lab wanted to keep him silent. Coil remained in the lab but eventually he became too much for them to contain and he broke out as well, trying to follow scarf's trail to meet him again.
It bothers me as well! the way people talk about it like white silver is the default when canon kind of backs otherwise. Its a sentiment ive seen with other gijinkas and its a little disheartening, even if people arent being overtly rude about it. I know it’s not too serious and maybe white fans want to see themselves in their fave character but. Oh well. The coleslaw stuff from the cookbook certainly hasnt helped
The coleslaw stuff is so stupid bc even if coleslaw is a "white people food" it's only in the united states and silver is canonly the sonic equivalent of italian 😭 like come on soleanna is based off venice, and venice is literally his beta name... if silver is white then it's because he came from sonic italy, not because he's a white trash united states christian boy 🙄
And honestly i dont beef over gijinka ethnicities, in the end if people want to see silver as white it's up to them. Ive noticed in fandom spaces a lot of (mostly white) people tend to feel like they're being pressured/forced to make "woke" headcanons (even though no one ever spoke to them nor told them to) and self victimizing over it and i don't want to play any part in these theatrics. If you want your gijinkas to be white its ultimately your choice, what bugs me is that drawing silver with dark skin is enough to get people going "he's dark skinned? Isnt he white?" Like it's a canon thing...
hi! i was wondering if you had any ethnicities in mind for silver and blaze when you draw them? you have idea how happy i am to see silver and blaze gijinkas of color! ive always hced silver as arab(-italian) because of his kohl (eyeliner), him fighting iblis and ifrit, and him having a darker complexion in official art. And blaze is pretty overtly desi coded with the indo-islamic architecture of her palace, bindi, etc. But yeah anyways YAY to your art, thank you for posting!
Thank you! You pretty much nailed my hcs with yours, I headcanon silver as middle eastern, and blaze as indian + south asian (for some reason thailand comes to mind).
Also it's not my place to speak but it bothers me a little how people will swear silver is white, even though every official art has him with a darker complexion than sonic. i know it's a joke in some cases (because he's literally white) but ive got comments on my gijinka like "wow i never thought of silver being dark skinned!" Which makes me sad. I know sega has pretty much whitewashed the entire sonic cast with their 3d renders after 06 (look at the difference in rouge's skin tone in sonic adventure 2 and now...) but most sonic channel art continues drawing silver with darker skin, so i wish that wasn't ignored 😓

whenever u post sonic art i'm always over here giggling and smiling like an idiot. i love how u draw everyone (in both the canon style and as humans) and ur colors are SO pretty... it literally makes my day every time. thanks for sharing YIPPEE!!!
Omg thank u so much!! Ç__Ç it means a lot to me!! Sonic has always been my embarassing interest (in the sense i was made fun of) since i was a kid so i often feel ashamed of posting my sonic stuff lol.. but it makes me happy to know other people like it!
