okay I’m not a patron so I’m clowning but in music terms da capo means you return to coda so does that mean we’ll get to see Yellow again?
day one palace enjoyer i just gotta say. HUGE fan of how you .?cite your sources in the end notes. unironically inspirational i strive to reach that level of commitment
Thank you so very much!
I've gotta say, the citing of the sources is like 10% a habit left over from college (it's just plain good practice to say where words came from when they're not your own, especially if you're lifting lines verbatim from the transcripts) and 90% self-indulgence, because:
- I get to not worry about whether people know what scene I'm actually referencing. If you haven't listened to it recently enough that you can't identify it from the dropped lines, then the reference is right there
- Which also allows me to gloss over things like details and scene-setting. You've experienced this already, you know what's going on and what the context is, so I can focus on the parts I find juicy and skip right past anything that would be tedious.
- I get to explain odd details that might otherwise ping the foreshadowing radar, but that aren't important enough to dedicate attention to in-narrative. (Is there Something Important That We Should Remember about the fact that those doors don't open and there's something weird and metallic inside? Nope, that's just a quick-and-dirty way to disable doors from the outside.)
- I get to share the random facts and tidbits that I find during research, which I just happen to think is lots of fun (my coworkers also get to be subjected to these on a regular basis, whether they like it or not).
- It gives me an excuse to talk more about the stuff I'm writing about, which is like catnip for me.
Honestly, the ability to add footnotes with explanations and links to source material is something I really love about fanfic as a medium. I honestly wish I could do more with that in my original writing, but that tends to work best with certain vibes, and the things I'm writing right now don't quite fit that vibe in the way I want to.
FINALLY the John/Noel post is COMPLETE
Something I always love in fics is when both Yellow and John get new bodies, and they show the differences in their personality caused by their past treatment
Here's what I sort of imagine
John overall being the one who's more relaxed and being the louder one while Yellow in contrast being more quiet, withdrawn and almost spacey
Not only that, but also just the differences in their self-esteem
I feel like it shows the effect of both their experiences in how they turned out - like John's secureness in his own identity vs. Yellow just not knowing what he is. If he failed to be John and if he failed at being the king then what does that leave him?
Give me Yellow who feels like he'll never be enough because he's not John, give me Yellow who always feels like the second best/the second option, give me Arthur finally being gentle with Yellow and Arthur and John loving Yellow, I need this hurt/comfort in my life
