Yuri on Ice was such a life changing anime, especially to have experienced in real time waiting for those episodes to drop every week. It was an open acknowledgment and love letter to queerness, to valuing and creating art, to loving yourself and loving those around you and it’s no surprise that it had such a large impact on those who watched it. Not to mention how stunning it was to be presented with an open letter to queer love during a time where same sex marriage and gender equality was still a very hot and controversial topic. It’s, in its own way, nestled itself into history.

Okay so, I thought I couldn’t possibly have anything else to rant about concerning the magnificent pair skate in episode twelve, but I was wrong.

Looking back at episode one, Yuuri is miserable and feels utterly defeated after what happened at the GPF, and rightfully so. About a year later, he goes back to his home town and practices Victor’s FS program to regain his motivation. We all remember this. But what I’m getting at is the thing he says right after that, when he’s gone back to his house. This right here:

His motivation at the very start of the show after losing spectacularly is simply to skate on the same ice as his idol. And now, in the final episode of the season, we get the infamous pair skate

And like, this on it’s own is incredibly beautiful. But this, being with Victor,who he has loved and admired all his life, on the ice together, is all he has ever wanted. I mean yes, he wants to win and we know that, but the thought of winning wasn’t what kept him going. It was his desire to be with Victor, to be connected to him though their skating. And honestly? If that doesn’t bring you to tears, then I don’t know what will.

And the way Victor looks at him through that whole routine is just GOD.

Just thinking about how Bokuto says “World, please lend me your powers,” when he’s about to serve in chapter 382 (after they show a panel of Akaashi)

Then in chapter 400, it shows a panel of Akaashi watching the game in front of the word “World”.
