honestly sometimes stories where characters have self awareness and solve their problems maturely can be really refreshing sometimes. and sometimes it feels like therapyspeak slop. intense stories where no one is capable of understanding themselves and act out in incorrect ways can be very fun. and sometimes it feels like contrived bullshit. whatever makes "a good story" is harder to make happen than just using the right kind of characters using the right words

ok i fully believe in that statement that asagiri apparently made about bsd being for people in bad mental states to keep going (I don't remember exactly what he said) b/c i was having the absolute worst day today of my actual life so far and really wanted to just give up everything

and then decided to log in on tumblr and saw that the next bsd chapter was up

I need to reread the manga while paying attention to Atsushi's hallucinations with this new twist in mind

We know Atsushi was already hearing the headmaster's words berating him non-stop, so Q's ability acting as a trigger to give shape to those voices isn't super out-there.

It could also imply, because Atsushi said Dazai wouldn't be able to "become" an illusion since he's immune to abilities, that all people who suffer Q's ability have some leftover effects.

So is it really ability-based (even if Dazai nullified it) or rather a specific case where the right conditions met to make some permanent(?) damages to Atsushi's psyche?

wait I thought about it again I'm scrapping the part about Dazai not being able to become an illusion, it's irrelevant, it was just to say there was no way it was really Dazai himself who was talking to Atsushi, but something in his own mind instead.

and like Story @iwritenarrativesandstuff mentioned, it's more likely that Atsushi was impacted because Q's ability served as a trigger to a predisposition to cause this condition since we haven't even gotten a glimpse of Kunikida showing similar symptoms.

#wait but lowkey the fact that q was a trigger that solidifed the chaos of the headmaster in atsushi's mind is crazy interesting#it does make me wonder though...if atsushi sort of covered him up with the face of dazai to push himself more#like a cloth
