rewatching I'll Be Seeing You and I am always in absolute awe of how Cheers did not shy away from a: how compelling a fucked-up relationship like this is to watch and b: how fucked-up a fucked-up relationship like this would be to endure.

the writing is so much: yes, Sam and Diane are hilarious. they have phenomenal chemistry. they love each other. they hate each other. they're awful together and if you want that kind of relationship in real life you're an idiot. they're the only thing our viewers care about. they actively ruin each other's lives. they're the most compelling thing in each other's lives. getting into this sort of relationship is the worst thing you could do to yourself. of course they keep going back to each other; they couldn't do it any other way. they're the most entertaining thing on television today. they're amazing. they're fucked up. they're awful. what do you mean they can't be all these things at the same time.

#OP is absolutely correct#they are simultaneously the best and the worst for each othet#its so entertaining to watch but would not want to live it out in real life#cheers#sam x diane
