Gihun dying lowkey worst case scenario in season 3, and not just cause that’s my goat.
I think he should have to spend the rest of his life lamenting on not being able to stop the games, failing his friends and family and just living with the things he’s seen and done. Him dying it’s like okay he’s at peace now??? Makes no damn sense to me
There's a scene in S1, before the riot, where Gi-hun tells Sae-byeok that he and a few others are gathering together for protection and she is welcome to join them.
Sae-byeok tells Gi-hun that she doesn't trust him.
And I love Gi-hun's response. Gi-hun doesn't list off reasons for Sae-byeok to trust him. He doesn't get offended or annoyed with her. He just tells her, "You don't trust people because you know they're trustworthy. You trust people because you have nothing else."
To me, that sums up the core of his character so well, and it's the perfect example of what makes him the necessary hero to stop these games.
When the world tries to crush you down and enforce an ideology that trust is weak and foolish and must be stripped away through violence if necessary, the strongest thing a person can do is to trust other people anyway.
The only thing a person can do, if they want to keep any humanity of their own, is to trust other people anyway.
It is pretty clear the show was telling us that Gi-hun felt suspicious that Sang-woo knew about the dalgona game right after the game ended. However, at that time, I personally think he trusted that not to be true—that Sang-woo really didn’t know and just was nervous about the game. It was kind of a leap of faith for him. It makes sense for Gi-hun knowing his beliefs in people. ( But even if he accepted it fully that Sang-woo deliberately didn’t tell him, he already forgave him. )
But once he realized the kind of person the games made Sang-woo, thats when he knew Sang-woo purposefully kept it from him. As @degenerata69 said in their fic, him choosing “triangle” was basically a petty way of saying “i know what you did.”
Thats another reason Gi-hun wanting to end the games and go home with Sang-woo has such a big impact on me. He was forgiving Sang-woo for everything from the beginning. He felt that Sang-woo was still naturally good even when Sang-woo did him and everyone else wrong.
“That means just Jegi and Spinning Top are left. Which of those works for you?”
“I don’t know, but… I’ll do whichever one you think, Gi-hun.”
“How did you know my name?”
“Ah, your… your friend over here, I heard him call you that.”
“So I thought I’d try it out too. Does it bother you?”
“Uh, no, I… No, I don’t mind it.”
“So then, Gi-hun, what are you good at?”
“Uh, I don’t know, I… I guess I know Jegi the best.”
“Hmm. That’s fine. I’ll do Spinning Top.”
My opinions about gihun are so different compared to the rest of the fandom because many of you are certain that we'll see him "screaming and crying" when actually i'm sure he will be out for blood. He will never ever forgive Inho. Jungbae's death is not taken seriously here....
